Bunker shots

LAST Saturday’s golf event was a par event with a field of 59 men and 20 women.

Phil Grant was player of the day for the men with a fabulous +5, finishing two shots clear of Mark Russell and John Sharrock who both had +3.

Mark Russell was the A grade winner with +3, ahead of runner-up, Jason Chandler, who held off Mal Grobes after both finished on +2.

The B grade honours went to Phil Grant with +5, ahead of second-placed John Sharrock with +3 and third-placed Andrew Bowman with +2.

Ball run downs went to Gary McFarlane, Kevin King & Howard Templeton all +2, Tony O’Connor, Terry Dunn, Rod Munro, Shane Ryan and Bruce Luhrs all +1, with Damien Ferguson and Guy Sevior rounding out the placings finishing square.

Rhonda Scullion was the women’s winner finishing with +1, while Debbie Milne was runner-up on a countback from Di Hatherell after both finished square.

Nearest the pins went to John Christie and Di Raymond on the third, Wayne Millard and Cheryl Brinkmann on the sixth, Brent Bell and Sue Vickery on the 13th, and Mark Russell and Raymond on the 16th.

The closest second shot on the 15th went to Mark O’Brien and Pam White.

Wednesday

THE women’s competition was a par event and the second round of the Spectator Trophy with 55 players.

Pam White had a day out, winning player of the day with +4.

A grade was won by Milne with +3, ahead of runner-up, Enid Smith, who finished square to claim second place on a countback.

Rachel Slade won B grade with +2 ahead of Sue Bensch +1, while the C grade winner was Helen Beattie with +1 from Gaynor Eats -2.

Balls down the line went to Dawn Cay +1, Cate MacDonald, Dianne Hatherell, Carolyn Lewis, Sue Vickery and Glen Dixon all square with Pamela Howell and Cheryl Brinkmann finishing -1

Nearest the pins went to Sandra Colclough on the third, Wendy Wathen on the sixth and Liz Nichol on the 16th.

The closest second shot on the 15th was White, and the longest putt on the ninth went to Val Linke and Helen Holcombe on the 13th.

The final round of the Spectator trophy is a stroke round and will be played next week.

Sunday

SUNDAY Gold attracted 40 players for the 4BBB event.

Continuing their good form was father and son combination, Jamie and Kynan Caruana, taking out first prize with 45 points.

Jeanette Carmichael and Lyn Hayes were runners-up with 44 points, on countback from Rhonda and Neville Osborn, while Tania Cullinane and Fran McMeel finished fourth on countback with 42 points.

Nearest the pins on the third went to John Warden and Marg King, Roger Lewis and King on the sixth, McMeel on the 13th and Jim King and Vicki Anderson on the 16th.

Upcoming events

TODAY is the first round of the men’s club champions

hips, which I am sure will be a hotly contested event with last year’s winner, Mal Groves, hitting form.

Wayne Riddle, Graham Rentsch and Jason Chandler will all be players to watch out for in the open event as well.

Tomorrow is Legacy Day with a four-person ambrose scheduled.

There are spots still available via bookatee or by contacting the golf club.

Hit them long and straight and enjoy the 19th hole.
