WHILE the Parklands golf course and most of our gardens would appreciate some rain, this week’s weather made for enjoyable playing conditions for all competitions.
Saturday’s marvellous weather presented a great opportunity to shine for those competing in April’s Monthly Medal, especially for those also contending in the play-off of the Monthly Medal winners from the 2021 – 22 season.
Heather Hay had a memorable day, winning both the April medal and the play-off of the 2021-22 Monthly Medal winners in a three-way countback.
Hay finished with a nett score of 68 to claim the honour ahead of Barry Elvery and Graeme Torney, who were relegated to second and third respectively in the countback.
Minor prizes went to Bruce Taylor with nett 69 in a countback from Steve Nattrass, while Mark Miller finished with 71 nett.
Dale Grambau dominated the nearest the pin prizes, claiming the third, fifth and 15th, and Barry Oldaker won the 11th and the longest putt on both the first and the 17th.
The other nearest the pin prizes went to Dave Rendell on the second, Terry Rhook on the eighth and George Donaldson on the 13th.
Longest putt prizes went to Billy Evans on the 16th and Miller on the 18th.
Taylor’s accuracy on the scrapes was rewarded with the putting prize for 24 putts and John Wilkinson won the birdies and ferrets.
Friday nine-hole stableford
THE first round of the winter Friday competition on the old nine-hole course was won in summer like conditions by Phil Kosch with 31 nett.
Oldaker claimed second place with a nett 32 on a countback with John Allen, Kosch and Oldaker shared the novelties for the longest putt on the first and the nearest the pin on the 13th respectively.
Wednesday 13-hole stableford
STEWART Turner had a close win with 31 points, edging Oldaker into second with 30 points in the midweek round.
John Wilkinson finished third with 27 points.
Turner and Oldaker also dominated the novelty prizes with Turner claiming nearest the pin on the second and the longest putt on the first, while Oldaker claimed the nearest the pins on the sixth and the 13th.
Miller prevented the leaders from taking a clean sweep by claiming the nearest the pin on the fifth.
Tuesday stroke
JODIE McGregor was the clear winner of Tuesday’s stroke event, scoring nett 60 to finish ahead of Gaye Goggin, who returned a nett 64.
Irene Box claimed the nearest pin prizes on both the 13th and the 15th, while Goggin took out the honour on the eighth.
The longest putts on the first and 17th went to McGregor and Miller had the longest putt on the 18th.
Heather Wilkinson had a good day on the scrapes and won the putting prize with 26 putts, while McGregor had the longest, straightest drive on the ninth.
Goggin was the winner of the birdies and ferrets draw.
This week
WE wish the Parklands Golf Club’s Ladies Division 4 pennant team well when it competes against Coleraine at Coleraine this week.
Saturday’s competition format is stableford and all visitors are welcome at noon for a 12:30pm start.
