Bunker shots

HAMILTON Golf Club hosted its annual women's Rose Bowl event with 99 players participating from across the region last Friday.

Among the clubs represented were Barwon Heads, Blue Lakes Mt Gambier, Buninyong, Casterton, Cobden, East Framlingham, Grampians, Heywood, Horsham, Naracoorte, Parklands, Port Fairy, Portland and Warrnambool.

With perfect weather conditions, it was a very enjoyable days golf.

Three teams from Hamilton competed for the bowl and were drawn out of a hat each year. 

A Hamilton team was successful in claiming the bowl for a second year in a row - prior to this it had been 12 years since a Hamilton team had won.

The winning team this year was Lyn Satchell, Rita Walkom and Fran McMeel, who finished ahead of runner-up were East Framlingham and Naracoorte Teams.

Individual results included Satchell winning A grade scratch with 80 ahead of Alison Sinclair with 86.

A grade handicap honours went to Tania Cullinane with 72 nett, while Cheryl Brinkmann finished with 74 nett.

The B grade scratch title went to Leanne Brumley on a countback from Pam White after both finished with 91.

B grade handicap was won by Kath Hartwich with 71 nett ahead of runner-up, Diana McKenzie, who claimed second place on a countback with 72.

The C grade scratch honour went to Chris McDonald with 102 ahead of runner-up, Judy Thornton, one shot further back.

Lindy Bird won the C grade handicap prize with 72 nett ahead of runner-up, Louise Uzkuraitis, who won a countback with 75.

Local Hamilton team winners were Enid Smith, Jo Forsyth and Careena MacDonald.

Nearest the pins went to Alma Fonda and Jill Steen on the third, Cullinane and Sherine Healey on the sixth and Sandra Colclough and Jane Ritchie on the 16th.

The longest putt on the 13th was won by Fonda and Gwenda Malseed.

Saturday par

MEN’S par results saw a very close finish with a three-way countback deciding the placings with Kynan Caruana claiming victory ahead of runner-up, Mark O’Brien, and third-placed Greg Gunn, with the trio all finishing with +3.

Ball run down went to John Andrews, Ben Kelson, Zac Elliott and Wayne Picken +1, Martin Pitts, Damien Ferguson, Peter Jensen and Steven Coate all square.

Jenny Pike had the round of the day finishing with a fabulous +8 to win the women’s field, with Di Sevior runner-up on a countback from Pam White with +2, with Jenny Fishburn, Rhonda Scullion and Evelyn Coulson all finishing square.

Nearest the pins went to Tony O’Connor and Evelyn Coulson on the third, John Andrews and Pike on the sixth, David Edwards on the 13th and Andrews and Sevior on the 16th.

Closest second shot on the 15th went to Damien Ferguson.

Tuesday beginners and emerging golfers

A FIELD of 19 players took to the course on Tuesday with our beginners group winner, Jen Upton, collecting a fantastic 33 points.

Second place went to Aaron Martin with 29 points, ahead of Margie Laidlaw with 28 and Alan McLaughlan’s 27.

The emerging group was topped by Nicky Martin with 28 points from Di MacKirdy’s 26, Lisa Murphy recorded 25 and Julie Templeton finished with 21.

Congratulations to Bec Small, Templeton and Chantal Butcher on getting an official handicap from Golf Australia.

Wednesday

THE women played partners aggregate stableford for the Hyslop McKellar Cup and the winning pair were Di Raymond and Jo Forsyth with 78 points.

Runners-up were Deb Pinniger and Jane Bunge with 75 and in third spot was Anne Ryan and Kavell Lyons with 71 points.

Best score of the day and winner of A grade was Ryan with 41 points from runner-up, Jo Forsyth, on a countback from Di Raymond after both finished with 39.

B grade honours went to Jane Bunge with 38 points on a countback from Jenny Edwards.

Nearest the pins went to Scullion on the third, Ryan on the sixth, and Macdonald on the 16th.

Closest second shot on the 15th went to Bunge, the longest putt on the ninth was won by Gaynor Eats, while Rhonda Dunbar claimed the honour on the 13th.

Hit them long and straight and enjoy the 19th hole.
