ON Saturday the Parklands Golf Club welcomed a large contingent of visitors from Macarthur for the annual Macarthur Challenge.
The warm, sunny conditions presented were ideal, and a far cry from the cold, torrential rain experienced during the 2021 challenge.
The Parklands Golf Club reclaimed the shield after securing a narrow victory with an average stableford score of 32.75 points, compared with Macarthur’s average score of 32.4 points.
The leading player for Parklands was Gaye Goggin with 40 points and for Macarthur it was James Cassidy with 42.
Cassidy was the overall winner for the day from Macarthur’s Simon Sharrock, who came a close second with 41 points ahead of Goggin in third.
Irene Box came fourth with 38 points in a countback with Adam Fry.
Sharrock also claimed a raft of novelty prizes with the nearest the pins on the second and 13th, the longest putts on the first and 17th and the birdies and ferrets.
The other nearest the pin prizes went to George Donaldson of the fifth, Barry Oldaker on the eighth and Hugh McFarlane on the 15th.
The other longest putt prizes were claimed by Donaldson on the 16th and Fry on the 18th and Michael Brilley won the prize for the longest, straightest drive on the ninth.
Friday nine-hole stroke
DONALDSON’S recent good form continued on Friday when he won with a net 29.5, well clear of second-placed Mark Miller, who scored net 33.
Donaldson and Miller also shared the novelty prizes, with Donaldson claiming the nearest the pin on the 13th and Miller the birdies and ferrets prize.
Thursday - Larnie Cameron Memorial Teams Event
A PARKLANDS ladies team consisting of Irene Box, Heather Hay, Heather Wilkinson and Sandra Colclough competed at Casterton in the Larnie Cameron Memorial Teams Event and were runners-up to Portland.
Heather Hay was runner-up in the individual B grade event with 34 stableford points.
Wednesday 13-hole Stableford
A MIX of light showers, sunshine and overcast conditions greeted the field for Wednesday’s 13-hole stableford competition.
Donaldson was on fire with his trusty putter, which helped him to the win with a score of 27 points.
Bruce Taylor came a close second with 26 points from Miller who claimed third with 25 points.
Vincent O’Brien claimed the nearest the pin prizes on the second and the 13th and Miller claimed the longest putt on the first.
Taylor’s luck, which had deserted him on crucial putts, returned and he won the birdies and ferrets prize.
Monday 18-hole stroke
MONDAY’S anomalous, damp conditions appear to have suited Goggin and Hay, who both returned net scores of 74 and dominated the novelty prizes.
Goggin won on a countback and Hay won the putting prize with just 22 putts for the day.
Goggin also claimed the longest putts on both the first and the 18th, while Hay also claimed the longest, straightest drive on the ninth.
Wilkinson had the longest putt on the 17th.
The nearest the pin prizes went to Jenny Row on the 13th and Box on the 15th.
Box also won the birdies and ferrets prize.
