NOW the days are shortening and we have had some rain, the Parklands fairways are revealing an emerging flush of green which is delighting all players as there is not as much run for the ball.
Both golfers and dog walkers are appreciating the softer ground and pleasing vista of green and autumn colours.
Saturday
PARKLAND players travelled north to Mooralla to contest the Nichol-Reid Memorial Shield with some trepidation about the weather, we need not have worried though, as apart from a couple of heavy showers it remained cool but dry.
The event was a stableford event with all scores averaged out for each team.
Claiming victory in a close finish was Mooralla with an average of 28 points, holding off Parklands’ average of 27.61.
Individual Winner on the day was Stewart Turner with 36 points, ahead of runner-up, Barry Oldaker, one point further back.
Andrew Lewis finished third with 33 points.
Nearest the pin awards went to Lewis on the 3/12, along with Mark Miller and Liz Nichol on the 6/15.
The longest putt went to Graeme Haeusler and Marie Cook.
Friday
SOME brave men faced the cold conditions that presented themselves at 12.30 starting time for a nine-hole stroke event.
Oldaker claimed the win with 30 nett, one shot clear of Miller in second place.
Wednesday
IN cool conditions a good field took to the fairways for a 13-hole stableford round.
The top honour went to Alex Walter with 28 points, while Bernie Cook was one off the pace to finish runner-up.
Bruce Taylor finished third with 25 points on a countback from Barry Oldaker.
Nearest the pins went to Cook on the second and Taylor on the 13th.
Longest putt on the first went to Stewart Turner and the birdies and ferrets prize went to John Wilkinson.
Tuesday
LADIES captain, Gaye Goggin, decided on a stableford event with a twist.
The ladies hit off the men’s tees on every second hole, putting a different perspective on the game which proved challenging for many of the players.
Marie Cook held on to win on a countback from Mary McCallum after both returned to the clubhouse with 23 points.
Nearest the pin prizes went to Heather Wilkinson on the fifth and Cook on the 15th.
Longest putts went to Cook on the 17th and McCallum on the 18th.
Birdies and ferrets went to McCallum.
Monday ladies pennant
ROUND four was played at Hamilton and the Parklands ladies defeated Willaura-Lake Bolac, 4 and 1.
The final round is this Monday at Coleraine against Hamilton 2, good luck Parklanders.
This week
MAIN event for this week will be the Monthly Medal and the first round of the Men’s Championships to be played on Saturday.
