Bunker shots

WITH wintry conditions, it was certainly more challenging out on the course during Saturday’s Monthly Medal stroke round.

A field of 45 men and seven women took to the course, as Mal Groves found some form to secure the medal and top A grade honours with a very good 71 nett on a countback from John Hill.

Third place in A grade went to Peter Osmond with 73 nett.

The B grade winner was Trevor Wathen with 74 nett on a countback Noel Jennings, with Robbie Cunningham rounding out the winners on 76 nett.

Balls down the line went to Michael Kelso 75 nett, Shane Ryan, Ben Kelson, John Warden and Rob Vecchiet all on 76 nett.

Molly O’Brien took out the women’s event with 79 nett ahead of runner-up, Enid Smith, on a countback from Di Sevior with both returning with 83 nett.

Nearest the pins went to Damien Ferguson on the third, Graeme Mustow on the sixth, John Raymond on the 13th and David Edwards and Smith on the 16th.

The closest second shot on the 15th was won by Robbie Cunningham.

Wednesday

IT was the President’s Gala Day with 70 players taking to the course for a two-person Pinehurst event with visitors from Warrnambool, Heywood, Grampians, Parklands, Portland, Port Fairy, Willaura, Mooralla and Terang.

The winners were Judy Pekin and Kerryn Price, who finished with 72 nett, to hold off runners-up, Jenny Meade and Debbie Milne 73.875 nett.

Third went to Sue Walter and Di Sevior 76.375 nett and fourth place was won by Nola Beks and Anne Ryan 78 nett on a countback.

Nearest the pins went to Jenni Pike and Tania Heaphy on the third, The sixth went to Lyn Satchell, who doubled up on the 13th alongside Leanne Brumley with Di Raymond and Sheryl Nicholson claiming the prizes on the 16th.

El Zeunert scored the longest putt on the 18th.

Tuesday

A FIELD of 28 players played nine holes as the club’s beginners and emerging golfers continued their improvement.

In our beginners group, Jodie Russell had a great score of 42 points, while Kerry Martin also had a fantastic round with 31 points, followed by Joanna Austin 24 and Di Austin 19.

The emerging golfers saw Belinda Peddie taking the honours with 29 points, narrowly ahead of Helen Dillon 27, Sarah Laidlaw 21 and Bec Small 19.

Good luck to our Division 4 Pennant Team, which will be playing in the final on Monday against Parklands at Hamilton.

Team members are Sue Vickery, Jen Pike, Dawn Cay, Margie Hadley, Gillian Jenkins and Rose Tonissen.

Hit them long and straight and enjoy the 19th hole.
