PARKLANDS Golf Course is becoming a hive of activity as our Volunteer Workers prepare it for the upcoming State Sandgreen Championships to be held on August 28 and 29.

Saturday
ON a very pleasant day, ladies and men played a stableford round to raise funds for the Cancer Council of Victoria.
It was pleasing to welcome seven visitors including one from Beaufort.
The ladies played for the Cathy Winnell Trophy and this went to Jenny Rowe with 38 points, ahead of Irene Box with 33 points and Dawn Caye with 30 points.
Nearest the pins were won by Venita Mibus on the second, Martina Whelan on the third, eighth and 11th, Box on the fifth, Kelly Hitchcock on the13th and Rowe on the 15th.
Longest putts were won by Heather Wilkinson on the first and 17th, Box on the 16th and Caye putted truly on the 18th.
The longest, straightest drive was won by Whelan.
The men played a separate stableford event and it was won by George Donaldson with 39 points, edging out Ron Oakley on 37 and Steve Nattrass on 35.
Nearest the pins went to Bruce Taylor on the second, Oakley on the third, Nattrass fifth, Glen Kramer on the eighth, Vince O’Brien the 11th and Allan Hitchcock on the 13th.
Longest putts were won by Nattrass on the first and 16th, Taylor on the 17th and Dale Grambeau on the 18th.
Birdies and ferrets were won by Bernie Cook.
Friday
THE nine-hole stroke winner on the day was Bruce Taylor with a nett 28 1/2 ahead of Barry Oldaker on 34 1/2.
Nearest the pin on the second went to Bernie Cook, the 13th went to Taylor along with the birdies and ferrets.
Oldaker had the longest, straightest drive.
Wednesday
A SMALL field of men played on in showery weather with the evergreen Bernie Cook winning the 13-hole stableford with 25 points.
He finished ahead of David Rendell and Bruce Taylor on 23 points.
The novelties of nearest the pins were taken out by John Wilkinson on the second, George Donaldson on the fifth and Taylor rounded out the day by winning the 13th, longest putt on the first and the birdies and ferrets award.
Tuesday
THE ladies hit off in showery, cold weather but survived the 18 holes to make it back to the club house for that welcome cup of coffee.
In spite of the weather, there was one particularly hot score and that came from one of our pennant players in Marie Cook with 40 points, ahead of Heather Hay with 32.
Nearest the pin went to Marie Cook on the 15th.
Longest putts went to Hay on the first and 18th and Mary McCallum on the 17th.
Longest, straightest drive on the ninth was won by Cook.
Ladies pennant
THE final of Division 4 was played at Hamilton Golf Course against Hamilton 2, with our ladies battling valiantly but going down to Hamilton 3 and 2.
All games were played in good spirits and we congratulate Hamilton on the win.
Despite the final loss, our ladies had a successful season finishing on top of the ladder after the five rounds.
This week
MONDAY was the first round of the ladies’ championships with the second round to be played on Thursday.
These are stroke rounds, with two rounds to follow next week.
The main event for this week will be a stableford round on Saturday, visitors most welcome with a 12pm for a 12.30 hit off.
