Parklander candour

FLUX- the action or process of flowing or flowing out.

This seems to happen at most clubs this time of the year, with some members returning from holidays and others escaping the cold and heading north; one could say they are the wise ones, as we suffer some of these bleak conditions.

Saturday

THE stroke event was a right-handers versus left-handers stableford, which was played in very chilly weather with rain eventuating for the last few holes.

Right -handers won the day with an average of 29.66 points ahead of the lefties on 27.5.

The overall winner was Steve Nattrass with 36 points ahead of Barry Oldaker with 34 points, who just edged out Alex Walter on a countback.

Nearest the pins were won by Oldaker on the second, Nattrass on the third and the 11th, Graeme Torney on the fifth, Ron Oakley on the eighth, and landing nearest the 13th was Dale Grambeau.

Longest putts went to Stewart Turner on the first, the 16th to George Donaldson and Oldaker sunk some nice putts on the 17th and 18th.

Nattrass wound up his day with the birdies and ferrets prize.

Friday

DUE to the inclement weather and few numbers, there was no Friday nine-hole stroke competition played.

Wednesday

THE winter sun enticed some players out to play a 13-hole stableford game over the inward nine plus holes one, two and nine.

Leading the pack was Turner with 25 points, ahead of Bruce Taylor on a countback from Mark Miller, after both completed their round with 22 points to their name.

Nearest the pins went to Oldaker on the second and Miller on 13th.

Longest putt on the first went to Miller and Oldaker took out the birdies and ferrets.

Tuesday

CONTRARY to the forecast, which I am sure kept some players away, it was a perfect winter’s day for golf, and those that played appreciated the condition of the course and the warmth of the sun.

Kelly Hitchcock continued her winning form in preparation for the Victorian Sandgreen Championships with a winning score of 38 points to win matrimonial bragging rights from husband, Allan, with 32 points.

Nearest the pin on the fifth and 13th was Irene Box, Kelly saluted on the eighth and Heather Wilkinson on the 15th.

Longest putts were awarded to Wilkinson on the first and McCallum and Allan putted truly on the 17th and 18th respectively.

Birdies and ferrets went to Kelly, while Gaye Goggin won the longest, straightest drive on the ninth.
