THE wet start to spring has continued to limit play on the Hamilton golf course.

The grass is growing and with a few sunny days will soon dry out the course and players should get back to their regular golf.

Saturday

THE stableford event attracted 19 men and three women with Andrew Bowman topping the men’s standings with 36 points.

Bowman finished one clear of a three-way countback for second place, with Mark O’Brien holding off Shannon Kearns and Mark Russell.

Rounding out the place getters were Mark Williams 34, Mal Groves 32, and Marten Chin 31 on a countback.

In the women’s competition, Molly O’Brien had a convincing win with 35 points to finish well clear of Robyn Holcombe’s 30.

Nearest the pins went to Mark O’Brien and Holcombe on the third, Russell on the sixth, Bowman on the 13th, and Graham Rentsch and Molly on the 16th.

The closest second shot on the 15th went to Brent Bell and Molly.

Wednesday

TUESDAY and Wednesday golf was cancelled this week, but the previous Wednesday saw women’s captain, Di Raymond, spin the wheel to see what handicap each player would play off.

The handicap range was 10 to 54, and of course I managed to spin the lowest possible handicap of 10.

Glen Dixon was lucky enough to spin a handy 36 handicap to claim the winners spot with 51 stableford points; Dixon normally plays off 18 handicap.

Runners-up were Gerri Griffin and Jenni Pike who both played off 39 and collected 50 points.
