Parklander candour

SPRING, the season of surprises.

We thought we had it wet prior to, and during our tournament, but little did we know what was to come for the majority of Victoria.

We are indeed the lucky ones at this time in this corner of the state, we are able to play golf and there is no flooding of our homes and land.

One cannot help but feel for those who are facing such heartache at this time.

Saturday

ON a day that combined all elements of the weather, the Monthly Medal stroke round was played.

Overall winner of the meat tray on the day was Steve Nattrass with 89-16-73.

The voucher winner was Peter Irvin with nett 76, on a countback from Dale Grambeau.

Coming in third on a countback was Stewart Turner with nett 77.

Claiming nearest the pins were Grambeau on the third, Allan Flavell on the fifth, Ron Oakley on the 11th and Barry Oldaker on the 13th.

Longest putts were won by Graeme Torney on the first and 16th, and Nattrass on the 17th and 18th.

Birdies and ferrets was won by Bruce Taylor and the putting honours went to Torney with a nice 22 putts.

I believe there were a few trick shots played on the day, including one of the best on the 11th, well done Ron.

Friday

DUE to the bad weather, no competition was played.

Daylight savings has arrived and with this we commence our summer golf, meaning you can tee off at any time during the day on a Friday for a stroke round.

Please check which nine is being played, as we alternate each week.

Wednesday

A WINDOW of fine weather allowed a 12-hole stableford event to be played before the rain came in again.

Bringing in the winning score was George Donaldson with 23 points on a countback from Oldaker, while Taylor came in a close third on 22 points.

Nearest the pins went to Taylor on the second and 15th, while Donaldson on the 13th.

Stewart Turner holed the longest putt on the first.

Oldaker was awarded the birdies and ferrets prize.

Tuesday

AN ominous forecast with the ladies away and fatigue following the tournament saw no competition played, however a small number had an enjoyable social hit with no rain interruptions.

Monday

GLENELG Veterans Golf was played at Heywood, and Parklands member, Ron Oakley, lost his A grade match-up on a countback with 33 points - well done Ron.

This week

SATURDAY will be a stableford round, with a noon start for 12.30pm hit off.
