Bunker shots

THE men played for the Rountree Hyslop Cup on Saturday in a 4BBB par event, which is normally played over two rounds, but due to the recent course closure, the event was reduced to one round. 

Father and son combination, Troy and Zach Elliott, claimed top honours in the 29-pair field with +7, to win on a countback from Cameron Macdonald and Ross Murray.

Third place went to Terry Dunn and Marten Chin +6 and rounding out the placings in fourth was Tim Walkenhorst and Mal Groves +5.

Michael Holcombe had a day out with the nearest the pins, claiming three out of the four prizes – the third, sixth and 13th.

Chuck Raymond was nearest on 16th, and Cameron Macdonald collected the closest second shot on the 15th.

Molly O’Brien was the only female golfer on Saturday and finished with 31 points and nearest the pin on the third.

Tuesday

THIRTEEN players participated in the beginners and emerging golfers competition on a modified course, with Anne Dowling claiming top spot with 26 points.

Dowling finished four points clear of runner-up, Camilla Rodwell, with Lisa Murphy rounding out the placings with 19.

Wednesday

A FIELD of 33 women played stroke and the third round of the RA Christie Trophy.

It was great to enjoy the sunny conditions, although the course was still quite heavy.

The A grade winner was Alma Fonda with 78 nett on a countback from Deb Pinniger, and B grade was won by Fran McMeel with 82nett from Jenny Edwards 85 nett. 

Balls down the line went to Glen Dixon 80 nett, Kerryn Price 81 nett, Jeanette Carmichael 83 nett, Robyn Holcombe and Venita Mibus 84 nett.

Nearest the pins went to Di Raymond on the third, McMeel on the sixth, and Carmichael on the 16th.

Pam White’s putting effort was the standout on the 13th.

Upcoming events

IT is great to have twilight golf up and running on a Wednesday evening, hitting off from 4pm onwards.

Twilight golf is open to everyone, including non handicapped and non-members.

The Sunday golf competition commences tomorrow with a 4BBB event, 11am for 11:30am shot gun start, enter via OneGolf or contact the club.

Melbourne Cup Day’s event is a four-person ambrose event, including lunch; a great way to get involved in race day festivities.

Our annual tournament is coming up at the end of November with a women’s stroke competition on November 23, Men’s and Women's 4BBB Par on November 25, the men’s 36-hole stroke event the following day and an 18-hole stableford event for men and women and the tournament finishes with a four-person gentsomes on November 27.

Hit them long and straight and enjoy the 19th hole.
