ALMOST 40 years’ dedication to local golf has been rewarded with a new life member inducted into Casterton Golf Club.
Margaret Martin was presented with her life membership last Wednesday, at the end of the women’s winter competition.
“Margaret is a very deserving person of this great honour,” women’s captain Marion Cowland said.
“She joined the club in 1984 and played in both Casterton and Coleraine for many years.
“She re-joined Casterton Golf Club in 2001 and quickly made her mark, winning the C Grade championship in 2003 and 2004.”
Martin became the women’s president in 2010, when she also claimed the B Grade championship and continued as president in 2011 and also again in 2016.
When the men’s and women's committees merged in 2017, she became the vice-president of the Casterton Golf Club and is still a committee member, today.
“Margaret is a regular player on the course and has represented the club in pennant and at many tournaments,” Cowland said.
“She has been a great asset to the club with her gardening skills and general work ethic, however, her most notable contribution to our club has been her wonderful prowess as a caterer.
“With a great team behind her, her attention to detail and cooking skills have made the golf club a venue for many special events and the comments by visitors are always very complimentary.”
In addition to a life membership, Martin also celebrated a hole-in-one this 2022 winter season.
After accepting her honour, a teary and rather speechless Martin told the Casterton News she “just can’t believe it” and was overwhelmed by the accolade.
