AS Christmas approaches, the fairways remain green but also provide some long-awaited run for those golfers who don’t stray into the rough.
Saturday presented perfect conditions for the large field who assembled to take part in the four ball better ball (4BBB) stableford competition, followed by an end of year BBQ.
The leader board of the 4BBB competition was crowded with three teams finishing with 41 points.
Winning the three-way countback was the team of Ron Oakley and Vincent O’Brien from David Moller and Phil Kosch, with Mark Miller and Barry Oldaker relegated to third.
Oakley found some hot form late with a run of par scores, assisted by claiming the longest putts on both the 17th and 18th.
The other longest putts were claimed by Kelly Hitchcock on the first and Alec Walter on the 16th.
The nearest the pin prizes were shared between Bernie Cook on the 15th, Graeme Torney on the 11th, Bruce Taylor on the 13th and Sue Irvin on the 15th.
Peter Irvin won the birdies and ferrets prize.
Following the presentation the members enjoyed a BBQ to celebrate the many volunteers for their contributions towards a successful year for the club.
The nine-hole summer competition on Friday saw Barry Oldaker put plenty of daylight between himself and the rest of the field on a warm sunny afternoon.
Oldaker’s score of 30 nett was well clear of Marie Cook in second with 37 nett who edged out George Donaldson in third.
Oldaker also claimed the nearest the pin on the fifth and the longest putt on the first.
Wednesday’s 13-hole stableford competition was won convincingly by George Donaldson with 28 points from Les Pye with 26 points.
John Wilkinson claimed third place on a countback on 24 points.
Donaldson’s win was secured via his trusty putter and included claiming the longest putt on the first.
When Donaldson’s putter is on fire, he can putt with his eyes closed and is more than happy to demonstrate this.
The nearest the pin prizes were won by Pye on the second and 13th, and Taylor on the fifth.
Oldaker won the birdies and ferrets prize.
Next Saturday’s competition is a pinehurst round with any combination.
Visitors are welcome at noon for a 12.30pm tee-off.
