HAMILTON Golf Club is about to start its Beginners and Emerging Golfers Program next month which is open to all players both male and female.
Program coordinators, Marg King and Pam King, hope to attract as many new players as possible this year with the 2022 edition having in excess of 40 people signed up for that edition of the programme.
“We run the program over five weeks starting on February 14 where we have a professional come down from Ballarat to give instruction for three of the five weeks, with the current club members assisting on the other two weeks,” Marg said.
“Last year we had over 40 people join the program and of those 37 continue on with their golf by playing each Tuesday, but we’d be thrilled with 20 people signing up,” Pam said.
“We have 13 signed up already and there is plenty of room for many more.”
The program focuses on the fundamentals of the sport and will cover all aspects of the game.
“It’s designed for the person who has never played the game or those that have been away for many years to come and try the sport, and if they feel it’s for them, then we offer a beginner’s membership which is a one time only offer that is substantially reduced from the cost of a normal membership,” Marg said.
“The cost of the program is $100 per person which covers the five weeks and includes the tuition from the professional from Ballarat for three of those weeks,” Marg King said.
“The program starts at 9am each week on Tuesdays.
“All equipment is supplied so we are not asking participants to go out and purchase a set of clubs to be able to join the programme, but once they get the bug most then go on to buy a set.”
The Ballarat professional has a good working relationship with the club, allowing players to get regular coaching going forward if they would like.
“Daniel de Felice is the professional from Ballarat who comes to Hamilton, not only for this programme but also each month for people to have lessons with,” Marg said.
“We have had men join the beginners program before but not that many, and we are open to having as many men as possible taking up the game, with this programme being ideal for them just as much as it is for women.”
“We have a system where the beginners are given a club handicap which allows the person to keep tabs on their progress until they progress onto an official Golf Australia handicap,” Pam King said.
