THE Hamilton Golf Club has completed a successful tournament and it was great to welcome visitors to our course over the four-day tournament.
Last Friday
A FIELD of 72 players took part in the 4BBB par event, which was played in quite warm conditions.
The men's winning pair was Tim Lloyd and Heath Cay, finishing with +9, ahead of runners-up, Trevor Wathen and Mark O'Brien +7, and third place went to James Marconi and Dale Pollock +6.
The women's winners were Jo Forsyth and Robyn Holcombe with +7, sneaking home by one shot from runners-up, Judy Thornton and Val Linke, with third Lyn O'Brien and Nettie Purvis third on +5.
Nearest the pins went to Cay and Purvis on the third, Mark O’Brien on the sixth, Graeme Morris and Kerryn on the 13th, and the 16th was won by Tim Lloyd and Glen Dixon.
Last Saturday
SATURDAY saw the men play in a 36-hole stroke championship event with 42 entrants.
Former local, Mat Walkenhorst, played off a handicap of -2 to claim the A grade scratch championship with 144 off the stick, five clear of runner-up, Heywood’s Noah McLeod, with Daniel Battista rounding out the placings with 157.
A grade 36-hole nett honours went to Daryl Stalker with 147, while B grade nett was won by Callem Mizzi with the same score.
B grade 36-hole scratch was a very close finish with John Andrews taking first place with 176 off the stick, one clear of Damien Ferguson and three ahead of third-placed Mizzi.
The 18-hole stableford event saw 40 men and 13 women take out cards with Mark Brown topping the men’s event with 43 points, clear of runner-up, Mark Russell on 38..
The women's 18 hole stableford winner was Liz Nichol with 37 points, with Molly O'Brien four points off the pace.
Nearest the pins went to Shannon Kearns and Cay on the third, Cameron McDonald and Alma Fonda on the sixth, Battista on the 13th, and the 16th went to Peter Osmond and Glen Dixon.
Tuesday
OUR beginner and emerging golfers group saw Karyn Dyson win with 24 points from Wendy McDonald and Doug Gardner, who both had 22 points.
The new beginner class will commence on February 14 under the tutelage of Daniel De Felice, our visiting PGA professional from Ballarat.

Wednesday
THE women's competition was a stroke round, including the Monthly Medal, as well as round one of the Silver Spoon and Laidlaw Cup.
Winner of A grade and her first Monthly Medal was Deb Chambers with 72 nett, one clear of runner-up, Sue Vickery.
B grade winner was Helen Beattie wth 72 nett, two clear of runner-up, Alexandra Kelso.
Balls down the line went to Carolyn Lewis 75, Helen Holcombe, Marg Hadley, Jo Forsyth, Robyn Holcombe and Jenny Edwards all 76 nett.
Nearest the pins went to Jenny Edwards on the third, Pam White on the sixth, and Shelley Peardon on the 16th, while the longest putt on the 13th was won by Deb Pinniger, and the closest second shot on the 15th was won by Chambers.
Putting was won by Venita Mibus 32 putts on a countback from Anne Ryan and Sue Bensch, while the Silver Spoon round was won by Helen Beattie.
Six players contested the nine-hole stableford with Sandra Colclough claiming victory with 12 points and Nola Beks runner-up one point further back.
Upcoming events
WESTERN District Health Service’s annual ambrose event will be held at our course on February 24, postponed from November due to the wet weather.
The annual Legacy Day is also coming up on February 26, which is also a four-person ambrose.
