GOLFING veteran and Casterton local, Bill May, is celebrating his second Merv Williams Memorial Trophy
The Casterton golf club was once again the venue for the memorial golf day for the Glenelg Veterans, with the course in great condition and the weather providing good playing conditions all had a good time.
A good field of 56 player consisting of 44 men and 12 ladies played for the Merv Williams trophy with Bill taking home the trophy on 43 points.
The trophy was presented on behalf of Shirley Williams, who has sponsored the event for the past 10 years.
Our A Grade winner was Pat Hegarty on 38 points from Geoff Bond, Phil Palmer and Ken Bibby, all on 36 points.
B Grade was a much closer event with four players all on 39 points; winner was Peter Irvine from Darren Bray, then George Donaldson and Ken Dancey.
We thank Mark Davis from Davis Blinds who sponsored this part of the competition on behalf of the Williams family.
Nearest the pins went to Bill May and Dawn Cay on the 2nd, Ross Mannita and Julie Marsh on the 8th, Noel Fitgerald on the 13th (and a birdie) and Pat Kennedy on the 17th.
We had visitors from Willunga and Blue Lake as well as local players from Parklands, Moralla, Portland, Dartmoor, Heywood, Hamilton and Coleraine and with the continued support from Shirley and Mark, we look forward to many more years of this competition.
Thanks to all the ladies who helped during the day from the office to the catering, their continued support is much appreciated.
