Top four: Riddle 151, Jason Chandler 160, Mal Groves 164, and John Hill 176.

B grade is a very close contest with only three shots separating the top four players.

Anyone in the top 15 is still in with a chance, as round three will certainly be interesting.

Top four: John Warden 166, Martin Pitts and Ben Kelson 167, and Dale Grambau 169.

C grade is also close with anyone in the top 10 not without a chance.

With one round to go, Trevor Wathen holds a one-shot lead from Shannon Kearns.

Top 4: Wathen 178, Shannon Kearns 179, Stephen Giles 183, and Cameron McDonald 184

D grade has one round to go and Kedar Giles holds a commanding 15-shot lead.

Top 4: Giles 185, Ian Ferguson 200, Alan Oakley 202, and Graeme Mustow 202.

A field of 78 men played in the Saturday stroke event with Giles having another standout round, finishing with 92 (25) 67 nett, and I am sure a few more shots will be coming off his handicap.

A grade winner was Mark Williams with 80 (9) 71 nett, from Chuck Raymond 72 nett, with Riddle taking third place on a countback with 74 nett.

Balls down the line went to Michael Holcombe and John Warden 74 nett, along with Grambau 75 nett.

B grade was won by Callem Mizzi, who finished with 86 (16) 70 nett, two shots ahead of John Mitchell 72 nett and in third spot was Peter Osmond 73 nett.

Balls down the line went to John Raymond, Kearns and Terry Dunn all with 74 nett.

Giles took out C grade honours with Ian Ferguson runner-up with 72 nett from Glenn Hards 74 nett, with balls down the line going to Graham Trounce 75, Peter Jensen 76, and Wayne Picken 77 nett.

Nearest the pins went to Jason Chandler on the third and 13th, and David Robertson on the sixth.

The closest second shot on the ninth went to Jason McIntosh and Robert Cunningham on the 15th.

There was 18 women playing on Saturday in a round of the Kavell Lyons Trophy.

Di Hatherell had the standout score, finishing with 100 (29) 71 nett, one shot clear of Enid Smith.

Balls down the line went to Tania Cullinane 73 nett, Robyn Holcombe 75 nett, Debbie Milne 76 nett, Gerri Griffin 77 nett, Lyn O’Brien and Vicki Anderson 78 nett, and Wendy Wathen 80 nett.

Nearest the pins went to Jo Forsyth on the third and Pam White on the 16th.

Tuesday

WINNER of the emerging golfer competiton was Mel Lewis with 24 points, ahead of runner-up, Alan McLaughlan, with 21, while Wendy McDonald also returned with 21, and Aaron Martin finished fourth with 19 points.

The beginners had clinics in putting, pitching and driving.

Wednesday

THE women commenced their championships, playing the first of three rounds.

In the Open section, Molly O’Brien and Kerryn Price both had 74 off the stick to be equal leaders, with Sue Walter sitting five shots behind on 79.

B grade 19-26 handicap is very close with five shots seperating the top five contenders.

Forsyth is leading the way with 98, followed by Cheryl Brinkmann and White 100, Kavell Lyons 101 and Shellie Peardon, Gerri Griffin, Smith and Di Raymond all on 103.

C grade 27-29 handicap has Margie Hadley leading the way with 104, one shot ahead of Carolyn Lewis 105, with Wendy Wathen in third with 108.

D grade 40-45 handicap, is another close contest with Gillian Jenkins’ 124 currently one shot clear of Gina Kelly.

The championships runs in conjunction with a handicap event ‘J Forsyth Trophy’ for all grades, and the current leaders in those events are A grade – Price 75 nett, O’Brien and Milne 77 nett; B grade - White 77 nett, Forsyth and Griffin 79 nett; C grade – has three ladies on the same score - Judy Thornton, Carolyn Lewis and Hadley all 77 nett; D grade – Kelly 82 nett leads by one shot over Jenkins.

Nearest the pins went to Sue Vickery on the third, Walter on the 16th, the longest putt on the 13th went to Rachel Slade, and the closest second shot on 15th went to Anne Ryan.

The final of the knockout singles was played between Vickery and Venita Mibus with Vickery winning 3-2.

Upcoming events

TODAY is stableford for men and women, and as it is a long weekend there, so will also be a stableford event on Monday.

The men’s and women’s championships will conclude next Saturday and Sunday. Hit them long and straight and enjoy the 19th hole.
