Bunker shots

LAST Saturday’s stableford event had a great field with 62 men and 28 women playing.

Zac Elliott was the player of the day, playing off a handicap of 30 to score 46 points and win B grade by six shots.

A grade winner was Martin Pitts with 40 points ahead of runner-up, Tim Lloyd, with 38 with Kevin King rounding out the placings with 37.

B grade winner was Elliott, while Mark Brown was runner-up on countback from Trevor Wathen after both finished with 40 points.

Ball run down - Phil Grant 40 points, Noel Jennings 38, Sam Plush, Nathan Caruana, Shane Ryan, Jim King and Jamie Caruana 37, Scott Anderson and Les Lloyd 36, and Jason McIntosh and Terry Dunn 35.

Nearest the pins went to Mark O’Brien on the third, Matthew Carbon on the sixth, and Robert Stagoll on the 13th.

The closest second shot on 15th went to Bruce Luhrs.

In the women’s competition, Karel Walkenhorst was playing steady golf and returned a very good score with 42 points to win from Jo Forsyth 40, with Helen Beattie taking third with 36.

Balls down the line went to Molly O’Brien 35 points, Vicki Anderson, Di Hatherell and Debbie Milne 34, Elaine Rentsch and Robyn Holcombe 33, and Enid Smith and Val Linke 32.

Nearest the pins went to Pam King on the third, Tania Cullinane on the 13th, Thea Sandell on the 16th, and the closest second shot on the 15th went to Forsyth.

Monday

WITH a public holiday on Monday, the club held a mixed stableford event with 33 players participating. 

It was a very closely contested field with one point separating the top eight players.

Troy Elliott won with 39 points on a countback from runner-up, Michelle Walkley.

Ball run down went to Callem Mizzi and Zac Elliott also on 39 points, Enid Smith, Jon Manson, Robyn Holcombe and Adam Manson 38, and Danny Franc 37.

Wednesday

A FIELD of 59 women played in the stroke event which was the second round of the club championships.

A grade was won by Cullinane with 86 (15) 71 nett, from Molly O’Brien 72 nett.

B grade saw Jenny Fishburn with the best score of the day, finishing with 92 (24) 68 nett to win by one shot from Deb Chambers.

C grade went to Lyn O’Brien with 103 (32) 71 nett ahead of runner-up, Sue Bell, on 74 nett.

D grade winner was Bronwyn Dwight 123 (44) 79 nett, from Judy Pekin 83 nett.

Balls down the line went to Fran McMeel 71 nett, and Nettie Purvis, Ath Archer, Anne Ryan and Venita Mibus all 73 nett.

Nearest the pins went to Jenny Edwards on the third, Archer on the sixth, Shellie Peardon on the 16th, the longest putt on the 13th went to Jeanette Carmichael, while Sue Walter hit the closest second shot on the 15th.

With two rounds of the championships being played, the women will line up on Sunday alongside the A and B grade men for the final round.

After two rounds, Molly is 163, 10 shots clear of Kerryn Price 173, with Walter sitting third on 175.

B grade is a very close contest with Forsyth leading the way on 195, two shots ahead of Smith 197, with Fishburn, Kavell Lyons and Di Raymond all on 198.

C grade is also very close with Carolyn Lewis leading on 209, one shot ahead of Margie Hadley 210,  Edwards is sitting on 211 and Wendy Wathen rounds out the top four players with 212.

Out and about

THREE of our club’s youngest members competed in Camperdown recently in the SSV/GA Secondary Schools Golf tournament. 

They did very well with Molly winning the senior girls competition, while Zac Elliott placed third and Harlie Manson placing 11th in the junior boys.

Today is the final round of the championships for the men’s C and D grade, with the A and B grade men playing both today and their final round tomorrow along with the women’s A, B, C and D grades.

Monday and Tuesday next week will see the club hosting the Victorian Veteran’s 4BBB Championships with players travelling from around the state to participate.

Milne and Price are heading to Moonah Links and Portsea Golf Clubs to participate in the state final of Golf Victoria’s 4BBB on Monday and Tuesday; we wish them all the best.
