GOLF
CASTERTON golfers Denise Gill, Marion Cowland and Anne Michau are Casterton Golf Club’s 2023 Larnie Cameron Memorial trophy winners.
Denise Gill also capped off a great day’s play by winning the B Grade division, the best local score and a nearest the pin.
The Casterton Golf Club holds this annual women’s golf day in honour of Larnie Cameron who was a cherished, long-time member of the Casterton Golf Club.
Each golfer in the team plays an individual stableford round and then three scores are added together to determine the winners of the team trophy.
The local Casterton golfers also play for the Joyce Murphy Trophy, which is presented to the Casterton player with the best score.
This year’s winner was Denise Gill and we thank the Murphy family for continuing to support our Larnie Cameron Day.
The day’s proceedings were officially opened by Casterton Golf Club life member, Margaret Martin.
This year there were 45 golfers from clubs throughout south-west Victoria and south-east South Australia.
Thanks to the large number of volunteers who helped on the day, especially to the men and ladies in the office, the people with utes and trailers to transport players to the tee blocks.
It takes a great amount of co-ordination to get all the ladies and their golf gear out to the tees around the course to enable a shotgun start, so all the players finish about the same time.
To the ladies who work tirelessly in the kitchen, which allows other members to play golf - you continue to show why Casterton has an outstanding reputation for the amazing food.
Thank you to the golf club’s local sponsor Casterton Foodworks.
Your support is greatly appreciated.
