PLAYER numbers are continuing to increase for our Saturday golf with 50 men and 25 women participating in a stableford event.
Stephen Astbury was in good form, returning the best men’s score with 42 points to win B grade ahead of runner-up, George McLean, two points off the pace.
Balls down the line in B grade went to Rob Harris 38 and Josh Fitzsimmons 37.
A grade was won by Brent Bell with 39 points, one clear of runner-up, Steven Coate, with balls down the line going to Kevin King 36 and Kynan Caruana 35.
Nearest the pin on the third hole and closest second shot on 15th hole was won by Shane Ryan, while Warren Butcher took out closest second shot on the ninth and nearest the pin on 16th.
Josh Fitzsimmons took out nearest the pin on the sixth hole.
In the women’s competition Jenny Fishburn had a day out, finishing with 44 points and taking three shots off her handicap, while Liz Nichol was runner-up with 39.
Balls down the line went to Rhonda Scullion 38, Robyn Holcombe 37, Gerri Griffin 36, Anne Ryan and Cheryl Brinkmann 35, and Rita Walkom 34.
Nearest the pins on the third hole went to Robyn Holcombe, Karel Walkenhorst claimed the sixth, Nichol saluted on the 16th, and the closest second shot on 15th went to Anne Ryan.
Tuesday
NUMBERS are continuing to increase in our Tuesday nine-hole competition with seven players participating.
Jill Walkenhorst won with 21 points, with next beset scores going to Nan Templeton and Lesley Toyer with both recording 13.
There were nine beginner/emerging golfers with Joanna Austin scoring 24 points to win ahead of runner-up, Alan McLaughlan, with 21 and rounding out the placings was Jan Hornell with 18.
Wednesday
WOMEN’S golf saw the November Monthly Medal contested in a stroke event, along with the final for the medal winners over the past 12 months.
Our medal winners this year were Molly O’Brien winning two, Deb Chambers, Lyn Satchell, Jeanette Carmichael, Alma Fonda, Kerryn Price, Jenny Pike and Jo Forsyth.
Price had a day out with 80 off the stick to give her a 72 nett to win the Medal of Medallists as well as the November medal.
Included in Price’s round was an eagle on the eighth hole.
Runner-up was Robyn Holcombe with 74 nett.
B grade was won by Chantal Butcher, who is continuing to improve and will be a player to watch in the future, finishing with 74 nett, while Nichol was one shot further back.
Balls down the line went to Enid Smith 75 nett, Rhonda Scullion, Venita Mibus, Lyn Hayes and Di Raymond all on 76 nett.
Nearest the pin on the third hole was won by Di Raymond, Jo Brown took out the sixth, and Bronwyn Dwight was the winner on the 16th.
Di Raymond sank the longest putt on 13th, and Margie Hadley took out the closest second shot on the 15th.
Eileen Robertson was on song, holing 28 putts.
The nine-hole stableford had 11 players with Wendy Wathen finishing with 22 points, two clear of runner-up, Nola Beks.
Out and about
CONGRATULATIONS to Wendy and Trevor Wathen who had a win in the Golf Australia – Victoria 4BBB event held in Horsham recently.
They will now go on to play in the state final at Spring Valley and Kingston Health Golf Clubs in January.
Upcoming events
MELBOURNE Cup Day will be a two-person pinehurst men and women event, 9am for 9.30am shotgun start, $30 per player which includes a barbecue lunch.
The club will be holding its Annual General Meeting on November 14 at 7pm.
Western District Health Service (WDHS) is holding its annual four-person ambrose event on November 17, with entries available through the community liaison department at WDHS.
The club will host its annual tournament from November 23-26 and entries are now being taken.
