A FIELD of 57 men and 22 women played in Saturday’s stableford event and there were some very good scores recorded.
Special mention has to go to our up-and-coming player, Molly O’Brien, who had two eagles (eighth and 17th holes), along with three birdies and six pars.
Two men also had eagles with Liam Powell scoring one on the fifth hole and Rob Oakley on the eighth.
Kevin King returned the best score of the day for the men with 42 points, topping the A grade ranks ahead of runner-up, Powell, who returned with 40 points and Jason Chandler scored 38 in third.
B grade winner was Glenn Hards, sneaking in on a countback with a very handy 41-point haul ahead of Ben Taylor, with Bruce Luhrs third after scoring 39.
Balls down the line in A grade went to Mark O’Brien 37, Martin Pitts, Stuart McAdam and Chuck Raymond all on 36.
B grade ball run down went to Warren Butcher 38, Rob Stagoll 37, along with John Sharrock and Ian Ferguson 36pts.
Nearest the pin on the third hole went to Powell, Rob Vecchiet took out the sixth, John Warden the 13th, and John Sharrock the 16th.
The closest second shot on the ninth went to Terry Dunn and Martin Pitts on the 15th.
The women’s competition was won by Jenny Hurse who certainly had a day out, finishing with 43 points.
Rhonda Scullion was runner-up on a countback with 39.
Balls down the line went to Jenny Fishburn 39, Molly, Sue Vickery, Judy Thornton, Dawn Cay all 38, and Bev Tyson 37.
Nearest the pin on the third went to Molly, Cay on the sixth, Enid Smith on the 16th, and the closest second shot on the 15th was won by Molly.
Wednesday
FORTY-FOUR players took to the course for a two-person ambrose.
Rachel Slade and Ath Archer combined to take out first place with 67 nett, ahead of runner-up, Molly and Di Raymond with 68 nett, while third went to Robyn Holcombe and Nettie Purvis 69.75 nett.
Balls down the line went to Chantal Butcher and Sally Warburton 70, Anne Ryan and Sue Walter 70.5, Sue Vickery and Jen Pike, Debbie Milne and Susie Bell all 70.75, and Helen Holcombe and Liz Nichol 71.
Nearest the pin on the third went to Sue Walter, Raymond on the sixth, and Chantal Butcher on the 16th, while Liz Nichol holed the longest putt on the 13th.
Tuesday
IN the beginners and emerging golfers, Harriet Keatley had a day out with 28 points, which included a birdie on the second hole to claim victory.
Runner-up was Joanna Austin with 23 points with Alan McLaughlan rounding out the placings with 18.
Jenny Edwards won the nine-hole competition with 21 points.
Upcoming events
THE club held its annual general meeting on Tuesday at which two new women’s co-captains were appointed, with Deb Pinniger and Shelley Peardon to share the role commencing in December.
There are two other board director positions available which will be announced in the near future.
Next week is the club’s annual tournament with a women’s stroke event on Wednesday, men’s and women’s 4BBB Par on Friday, the men’s 36-hole championship along with the men’s and women’s 18-hole stableford on Saturday, and a gentsomes event rounding off the tournament on Sunday.
