Saturday

SATURDAY saw a great field of players with 43 men contesting the 36-hole stroke event and 55 players (36 men and 19 women) playing in the stableford competition.

Showery conditions prevailed throughout the day, making it challenging for players.

It was a high-quality field in A grade (+8 -12) with many players in low single-figure handicaps.

The winner was decided on a playoff after 36 holes, as Mooralla’s Tim Farquharson played off a handicap of four and Heywood’s Jayden McLeod played off scratch, with both tied at 147 off the stick.

Farquharson started the morning round with a 72 to McLeod’s 77, before the latter stormed back with a brilliant 70 off the stick in the afternoon to Farquharson’s 75 to tie scores and set up a playoff to decide the championship.

The playoff was on the 18th and McLeod won the toss, hit a long dive straight down the middle, which was matched, before both chipped onto the green for three.

McLeod had a lot longer putt uphill and his ball slid just wide of the cup, while Farquharson had a putt off approximately 2.5 metres and converted into birdie to win the event in front of the large crowd gathered on the clubhouse verandah.

B Grade scratch was won by Hamilton golfer, Damian Ferguson, who played consistent golf to finish with 171 from Andrew Henstridge on 178.

A grade results - Scratch winner Tim Farquharson (4) Mooralla 72 - 75 147; Scratch runner-up Jayden McLeod (0) Heywood 77 - 70 147; Scratch third Mat Walkenhorst (+4), Barwon Valley 72 - 77 149; Nett winner Martin Pitts, Hamilton 69 - 75 144; Nett runner-up Troy Elliot, Hamilton 72 - 75 147; Nett third John Hill, Hamilton 72 - 77 149.

B grade results - Scratch winner Damian Ferguson, Hamilton 88 -83 171; Scratch runner-up Andrew Henstridge, Hamilton 91 - 87 178; Scratch third Robbie Cunningham, Hamilton 92 - 88 180; Nett winner Bruce Luhrs, Hamilton 74 - 73 147; Nett runner-up Matt Hill, Hamilton 74 - 74 148; Nett third Guy Sevior, Hamilton 77 -73 150

Next Wednesday the women will be playing a Texas Ambrose event with the new and emerging golfers joining the field.

Presentation night will be held that evening.
