Bunker shots

SATURDAY’S stroke event was a great field with 67 men and 21 women participating. 

It was the men’s Monthly Medal and this event was taken out by John Raymond with a 83 (15) 68 nett.

Raymond’s score was the second best for the day, with visitor, Chris Eales, finishing ahead on a countback with a nett 68, but as a visitor was ineligible to win the medal.

Eales topped B grade section, from Raymond, with Kynan Caruana rounding out the placings with 71 nett.

A grade was won by Graham Rentsch with 75 (4) 71 nett from Mal Groves 72 nett and Steven Coate 73 nett.

C grade went to Alan Oakley with a handy 70 nett from Robert Harris 73 nett and Matt Hill 74 nett.

Balls down the line went to Tyler Hards 71, Jamie Caruana, Wayne Millard and Rob Stagoll 72 nett, Michael Kelso, Stephen Astbury and Paul Ryan all 73 nett.

Nearest the pin on the third went to Alan Oakley, Jamie Caruana on the sixth, Hill on the 13th, and the 16th went to Bill Tyson.

Closest second shot on the ninth was won by Groves, while Rentsch took out the 15th.

In the women’s stroke event, Elaine Rentsch had a day out finishing with 106 (35) 71 nett to win from Vicki Anderson 72 nett.

The ball run down went to Robyn Holcombe 72, Margie Hadley and Di Hatherell 74, Cheryl Brinkmann and Bev Tyson 76, Enid Smith and Tania Cullinane 77 nett.

Nearest the pin on the third went to Robyn Holcombe, Di Raymond on the sixth, and Helen Beattie on the 16th.

Wednesday

THE Texas ambrose team of three event saw the beginners and emerging golfers join the field. 

Nettie Purvis, Kath Hartwich and Lisa Murphy combined to win with 65.1 nett, ahead of Jo Forsyth, Jeanette Carmichael and Rachel Slade second with 68 nett, while third was Di Sevior, Marg King and Alan McLaughlin 69.5.

Nearest the pin on third went to Fran McMeel, the sixth went to Sue Bell, Eileen Robertson on the 16th, while the longest putt on the 13th was won by Deb Pinniger.

The women held their annual presentation on Wednesday evening where all the major prizes were presented, and the women’s captain, Di Raymond, handed over her badge to the new co-captains, Deb Pinniger and Shellie Peardon.

The club champions for 2023 were Molly O’Brien (open), Di Raymond(B grade) and Carolyn Lewis (C grade), with all three winning the J Forsyth trophies as well. 

Other major trophy winners included Ath Archer taking out the prestigious Spectator Trophy (a round of stroke, stableford and par) and the Super Veteran’s Trophy. 

Jenny Fishburn won the Veteran’s trophy, while Glen Dixon claimed the RA Christie Trophy (round of stroke, stableford and par) and the Committee Cup (19-25 handicap).

The Laidlaw Cup (aggregate four rounds stroke) was won by Margie Hadley, Lyn Satchell had the best stroke gross score for the year, while Kerryn Price won the NR Dale Trophy for best three gross scores aggregate. 

The Austin Cup (26-39 handicap) went to Nettie Purvis, the Fairway Trophy (40-45 handicap) was won by Gina Kelly, and the Kavell Lyons Trophy (Saturday stroke aggregate four rounds) went to Holcombe.

Eclectic A grade handicap was won by Di Raymond and B grade went to Margie Hadley.

The putting competition was a tie between Enid Smith and Helen Holcombe

Tuesday

JAN Hornell has continued her consistent form in the beginners and emerging golfer group, winning with 20 points from Alan McLaughlan 18 and third-placed Kerry Martin 17.

In Tuesday’s nine-hole competition, Kath Hartwich won with 15 points from Lisa Murphy and Lesley Toyer on 14.

Next Tuesday we will have a visiting professional, Craig Davis, who will be visiting our club regularly next year and bookings can be made through Marg King.

THE next event is the Christmas Ambrose, which is teams of four, which will be held on December 17, 11am for 11.30am shotgun start. Enter via one golf or by contacting the club.

The men who won a monthly medal this year will play off in the final of the medal of medallists today in a stroke event, while the rest of the men’s and women’s fields will play a stableford round.

Hit them long and straight and enjoy the 19th hole.
