THE Hamilton Golf Club is gearing up for the start of its beginner golf program next month.
Marg King and Pam King will run the program again, with the club keen to get new players involved.
“We start on February 13 and it is a program for men and women,” Marg said.
“It goes for five weeks and we have a golf professional four of the five weeks.
“He will take the first four weeks then the fifth week players will go out on the course.”
At the end of the program, it is up to players if they wish to continue, with a beginner’s membership available with events each Tuesday at the club for the rest of the year.
“We also have the emerging golfers who have previously done the beginner program but don’t feel confident to go up to normal fields, they are doing specialist sessions during those weeks as well,” Marg said.
“We try to build it up as a social thing, we don’t want to make it too serious.
“I would think most of our ladies members have been through the program at some stage, it has been going for about 50 years, and if you ask around at the clubhouse on a Wednesday, most have been through it.
“It is a good stepping stone, I think we are the envy of a lot of clubs that we offer a program like this, but you just need someone to give up their Tuesdays, but we love it.”
Sessions run for an hour or an hour and a half, with golf clubs and balls provided.
