A big field took part in Saturday’s par event with 71 men and 21 women playing.
A grade saw Michael Harms sneak home on a countback from Jason Chandler after both finish with +1, while Darren Coombe was third after the Southport Golf Club visitor finished square.
B grade was also a very close affair with Stephen Astbury taking first prize on a countback from Bruce Luhrs after both recorded +3, while John Sharrock was one shot back on +2.
C grade saw another countback to decide the winner with Barwon Valley Golf Club visitor, Matt Ball, winning from Nicholas O’Brien after both returned +1, with Robert Harris rounding out the placings on -1.
Balls down the line went to Andrew Bowman, Andrew Henstridge, Peter Osmond, Ewen Maconochie and Shannon Kearns +1, Nathan Caruana, John Mitchells, Ross Murray and Trevor Haley square and Wayne Riddle -1.
Nearest the pin and superpin went to Riddle, winning a handy $102 for his effort.
Nearest the pin on the sixth was Ben Taylor, Ben Kelson on the 13th, Jackson Hay on the 16th, while the closest second shot on the ninth went to Andrew Bowman and Dale Grambau on the 15th.
In the ladies, Alma Fonda had the best score of the day with +2 to win by one shot from Bev Tyson +1.
Balls down the line went to Margie Hadley, Jen Pike, Deirdre Simkin square, Di Hatherell, Jenny Fishburn, Val Linke and Wendy Wathen -1.
Nearest the pin on the third hole was Hadley, Fonda on the 13th, and Tyson on the 16th.
The closest second shot on the 15th went to Enid Smith.
Wednesday
SIXTY women took part in the Hyslop McKellar Cup (aggregate stableford event), with the overall winners of this event being announced at presentation night.
Individual winners on the day were in A grade Sue Vickery with 36 points from Jo Forsyth 35 points, B grade was won by Wendy Wathen 37 points from Jenny Fishburn 35 points, and C grade saw an amazing individual score by Bec Small, who finished with 47 points, taking five shots off her handicap.
Runner-up to Small was Joan Lewis with 35.
Lewis has made a welcome return to golf - it was great to see her collect a prize on her first Wednesday competition for several years.
Balls down the line went to Robyn Holcombe 35 points, Rose Tonissen and Kerryn Price 34, Linke and Jeanette Carmichael 33 points.
Nearest the pin on the third hole was Carmichael, the sixth hole was won by Price, the 16th went to Dawn Cay, the longest putt on 13th was holed by Fran McMeel, and the closest second shot on the 15th went to Carmichael.
Next Wednesday is our annual Rose Bowl event, with a great field entered.
Tuesday
THERE was a good turnout for the beginners, emerging and nine-hole competition on Tuesday.
New member, Lousie Field, was the winner in the beginner’s group with 36 points, one shot ahead of Cate Mercer-Grant, who continues to come in with great scores, as Sally Bensch rounded out the placings with 31.
In the Emerging group, Helen Dillon had 21 points to win from Louise Kelson by one point, with Joanna Austin, Jen Upton, and Alan McLaughlan all on 19.
In the nine-hole competition, Marg Langford was the winner with 13 points from Wendie Stephens.
Today’s event for men and women is stableford.
