Parklander Candour

LAST Saturday Parklands members travelled to Mooralla Golf Club to defend the Nichol-Read Shield.

The Shield is the prize awarded to the club that wins the annual stableford challenge match between the Parklands and Mooralla Golf Clubs.

The event is open to men and women members of each club.

Geoff Nichol and Bruce Read were active members of both Golf Clubs.

Parklands came away winning the shield with an average of 37.33 Mooralla 35.27

FRIDAY

IT was a nine-hole stroke over the old nine-hole course, and scores reflected there still being a bit of run on the course, even though the summer rating has finished.

Barry Oldaker won with nett 26.5 ahead of Stewart Turner 28.5 and Mark Miller 30.

Nearest the pins went to Oldaker on the 13th, while longest putt honours on the first went to Bruce Taylor, with Oldaker also collecting the birdies and ferrets. 

WEDNESDAY

THE in-form Les Pye continues to defy age again, winning the 13-hole stableford with a score of 31 points,

Finishing second on a countback was Bernie Cook ahead of Barry Oldaker after both scored 29, while fourth on a countback was Mark Miller followed by Peter Irvin with both on 28.

Nearest the pins went to Peter Irvin on the second, while Pye saluted on the fifth hole and 13th, with Taylor closest on the seventh.

Longest putt was Irvin on the first, who also collected the birdies and ferrets.

A trial period for the new Wednesday golf format commences nest Wednesday and concludes on May 29.

Two nine-hole events will be played each Wednesday; one in the morning and the other in the afternoon.

Players are welcome to participate in the morning event, the afternoon event, or both.

Tuesday

JENNY Row was welcomed back after a few months break and did she return with a bang, winning the stroke event with +1, finishing ahead of runner-up, Heather Hay on -1 and Heather Wilkinson on -3.

Nearest the pins went to Irene Box on the second and seventh holes, Kelly Hitchcock on the 13th, and Marie Cook on the 15th. 

Longest putts went to Hay on the first and Gaye Goggin on the 18th.

Box collected the birdies and ferrets.

We also had the pleasure of celebrating a special birthday for Mary McCallum, a very valued member of the club.
