SIXTY-SIX men played stableford last Saturday, with the second round of the Spectator Trophy also played.
The final round is par and is worth double points and will be played today.
The field is very close in this event with a few players in contention.
Paul Ryan, Jim King and John Warden are on -1, John Raymond and Scott Anderson -2, with a few other players a couple of shots off the pace, so it could be an interesting day.
Mat Walkenhorst was our A grade winner playing off +3 and finishing with 37 points, which included seven birdies, runner-up in A grade was Michael Holcombe on a countback from Eli Potts after both finished with 36 points.
B grade winner with the overall best score of the day was Jim King on 38 points, runner-up was Ross Murray on a countback from John Raymond with both scoring 36 points.
C grade winner was Rob Harris with 31, one ahead of runner-up, Wayne Picken, with James Barber third with 29.
Balls down the line went to Shannon Kearns, Paul Ryan, and Cameron McDonald 35, Rob Stagoll, John Christie, Beau Munn, Les Lloyd, Mark Williams, and Chuck Raymond on 34.
Nearest the pin on the third hole was won by Peter Osmond, the sixth hole went to Ross Murray, the 13th was won by Stuart McAdam, while the 16th hole and superpin was won by Tim Lloyd.
The closest second shot on the ninth was Cameron McDonald and Walkenhorst on the 15th.
Nineteen women played on the day, with Alma Fonda continuing her good form to take out the honours with 38 points from Robyn Holcombe on 37.
Balls down the line went to Dawn Cay 36 points, Tania Cullinane and Di Raymond 35, Sally Warburton, Karen Payne, Jen Pike, and Cheryl Brinkmann all on 33.
Nearest the pin on the third hole was won by Di Hatherell, the sixth was Helen Beattie, Kerryn Price was closest on the 13th, and Jenny Fishburn claimed the 16th hole, with the closest second shot on the 15th going to Karen Payne.
Wednesday
FORTY-EIGHT women played stableford and a round of the silver spoon.
It was great to welcome one of our new golfers, Jan Hornell, up from the Tuesday group, and she had a great day to win C grade with a very good score of 41 points.
C grade runner-up was Rosemary Belcher, who had a very good score with 38 points.
A grade was won by Robyn Holcombe 36 points, from Deb Pinniger 34, while B grade was a close affair with Dawn Cay taking the prize on a countback from Marg King with both on 36.
Balls down the line went to Rhonda Scullion, Lesley Hobbs, and Rose Tonissen 36 points, Jenny Hurse and Helen Holcombe on 35.
Robyn Holcombe also took out the silver spoon round.
Nearest the pin on the third was won by Fonda, the sixth by Pam Howell, the 16thwas Sally Warburton, while the closest second shot on the 15th was by Fiona Robertson.
Tuesday
THE beginners and emerging golfers had a good turn out with 18 players.
In the beginner group, Robert Claffey continues to improve and was the winner with 28 points, with Kris Fox not too far behind on 25.
In the emerging group, Lou Kelson won with 22 points, with Helen Dillon, Hornell and Alan McLaughlan finishing runners-up.
Six players played in the nine-hole competition, which was won by Jill Walkenhorst on 16 points from Liz Wallis on 13.
Pennant
PENNANT has reached the pointy end of the season with finals on Sunday for the men’s and mixed teams, and on Monday for the women’s teams, with finals to be played at Portland Golf Club.
Hamilton had a successful season with four teams making the finals this year.
The mixed team are going for back-to-back wins, having won the inaugural season last year.
This year’s team is Rob Fishburn, Michael Holcombe, Alma Fonda, Jenny Fishburn and Wendy Wathen and they will take on Mooralla in the final.
Other players who participated in this team to help them get to the finals were Trevor Wathen, Kevin King, Rhonda Scullion, Sue Walter, Sue Vickery, Chantal Butcher, Gerri Griffen and Deb Pinniger.
The Men’s Division 3 Handicap team will take on East Framlingham.
The players who participated during the season were Tony O’Connor, Kynan Caruana, Jamie Caruana, Stephen Astbury, Matt Hill, Warren Butcher, John Andrews, and Shannon Kearns.
The Division 2 Women’s team will take on Warrnambool, and the team will line up as Debbie Milne (captain), Jo Forsyth, Di Raymond, Enid Smith, and Gerri Griffin, with Sue Vickery as emergency.
The other women’s team to make the final is the Division 3 side, which will also play Warrnambool.
Players who participated during the season were Liz Nichol (captain), Cay, Margie Hadley, Rose Tonissen, Bev Tyson, Scullion, Kath Hartwich, and Wendy Wathen.

THE women will be hosting a Gala Day on May 29, with play to be a two-person Pinehurst, with our members being encouraged to play with a guest from another club.

There is another Paint and Sip night at the clubhouse on June 14 at 6.30pm.
This was a very popular event last time, so get in early if you would like to participate.
The club is starting a nine-hole event on a Friday afternoon, starting next week.
Hit off after 2.30pm, $15 which includes golf and a schooner or a glass of wine; enter via one golf or contacting the club house.
