Parklander Candour

THE abnormally dry conditions in the district have provided some upside for golfers with the still green fairways providing plenty of run. 

Players have been enjoying the cool but dry conditions which has been reflected in the scoring, but hopefully we will soon benefit from some welcome rain.

Saturday 18-hole Par

A large contingent of players was in contention for the Russell Family Trophy in Saturday’s second round of the 36-hole 4BBB Par event. 

Winning in a countback were the team of George Donaldson and Ron Oakley from Sue and Peter Irvin both with +11, while third place went to Allan Flavell and Mark Miller on +8.

The Irvin’s two rounds of strong scoring saw them clear winners of the Russell Family Trophy with total score of +16 and will see their names added to the honour board.

Oakley dominated the novelty prizes, claiming the Nearest the Pin prizes on the fifth, seventh and 15th and the Longest Straightest Drive on the ninth.

The other NTPs went to Dale Grambau (second), Barry Oldaker (third and 11th) and Stewart Turner on the 13th

The Longest Putts went to Mark Miller (first), Donaldson (16th) and Sue Irvin on the 17thand 18th.

Toby Salter won the Birdies and Ferrets prize. 

Friday 9-Hole Stroke Competition

Friday’s nine-hole stroke competition on the old nine holes was won by Mark Miller with a nett 30 from Allan Flavell on 33 and Barry Oldaker on 34.5.

The Longest Putt on the first was won by Flavell and the Nearest the Pin prizes went to Phil Kosch (second) and Flavell (13th), while Bruce Taylor won the Birdies and Ferrets prize.

Wednesday 12-Hole Stableford Competition

A small but dedicated group competed in Wednesday’s 12-hole stableford competition which was won by George Donaldson with 26 points. 

Les Pye claimed second place in a countback from Alex Walter, both on 24 points. 

The Nearest the Pin prizes also went to Donaldson (13th) and Walter (second). 

Bill Evans won the Longest Putt prize on the first and Donaldson rounded out the afternoon winning the Birdies and Ferrets prize.

Tuesday 18 Hole Stroke Competition

Gina Kelly enjoyed the conditions on offer and won convincingly with a nett score of 66 from Jaymie Broad with a nett 69.

The minor placings went to Gaye Goggin, third in a countback from Kelly Hitchcock both with nett 74 and Heather Wilkinson in fifth with a nett 75.

The Nearest the Pin Prizes (NTP) were shared between Broad (second), Irene Box (fifth), Wilkinson (seventh) and Hitchcock (15th). 

Broad also won the Longest Putt on the first and Lil Haye won the Longest Putt on the 17th and the Birdies and Ferrets prize. 

The Longest Putt on the 18th went to Hitchcock and Wilkinson also won the putting prize with 27 putts.

Next Week

Upcoming events include a 12-hole Stableford competition today, 9-hole Stroke competition over the old nine holes on Friday, and an 18-hole Par event on Saturday, while Tuesday is an 18-hole Ambrose competition.
