Bunker Shots

SIXTY-TWO men and 18 women played Saturday’s stroke event in ideal conditions, as Shannon Kearns had a very steady round to take out the July Monthly Medal, finishing with 83 (14) 69 nett.

Kearns was also the winner of B grade with Tony O’Connor runner-up one shot further back.

A grade was won by John Hill, who also had a day out finishing with 70 nett to win from Steven Coate on 75 nett.

C grade was won by Danny Franc on a countback from Reignbeau Apuwai after both scored 73 nett.

Balls down the line went to Ross Murray and Rod Munro 72 nett, Stephen Astbury 74 nett, Brent Bell, Graham Trounce, Rua Ricus with75 nett, and John Raymond and Rob Harris 76 nett.

Nearest the pin on the third hole was Apuwai, sixth, the 13th went to Mal Groves, and 16th went to Brent Bell.

The closest second shot on the ninth was struck by Martin Pitts, and John Sharrock collected the honour on the 15th.

Di Sevior had the best score in the women’s competition with 99 (23) 76 nett to win from Anne Ryan, who snuck into second place on a three-way countback with 78 nett.

Balls down the line went to Bev Tyson and Enid Smith 78 nett, Jenny Edwards and Molly O’Brien 79 nett, and Wendy Wathen and Debbie Milne 80 nett.

Nearest the pin and superpin winner this week was O’Brien, taking home $93 for her shot.

Ryan was closest on the 16th and Robyn Holcombe hit the closest second shot on the ninth.

Wednesday

A FIELD of 28 women played stableford and Joan Lewis was the winner with 35 points, ahead of runner-up, Elaine Rentsch, who scored 33 points.

Nearest the pin on the third hole was Rose Tonissen, the 16th went to Rita Walkom, while the closest second shot on the 15th was struck by Alma Fonda and the longest putt on the 13th was holed by Walkom.

Balls down the line went to Walkom, Alma Fonda, Bev Tyson and Gerri Griffin 32, Marg King, Jan Hornell and Helen Dillon 31.

Next week’s round is a stableford, shotgun start at 9.30am

Tuesday

A SMALLER field of nine players took part in the beginner and emerging golf competition.

In the beginner group, Judy Fort continued her good form with 28 points to win ahead of Louise Field 20 points and Kris Fox 19.

Kerry Martin finished with 18 points in the emerging group with Leigh Coggins next best on 15.

In the nine-hole event, Jill Walkenhorst won with 17 points.

Craig Davis will be running further lessons, which are open to anyone on July 23 and July 30.

Today’s event is a stableford for men and women.

Hit them long and straight and enjoy the 19th hole.
