Bunker shots

THERE was a very good field on Saturday with 66 men and 24 women playing stableford.

Jack Hutchins was the player of the day with a great score of 42 points, which gave him a win in C grade, while runner-up was Nicholas Armstrong with 36 and Peter Delany third on 35.

The A grade winner was Ben Kelson, pipping John Hill on a countback after both finished with very handy scores of 40, while third spot went to the consistent Jim King with 36.

B grade’s top prize went to Kim Fielke with 39, two points clear of runner-up, Jamie Caruana, and third spot went to Nathan Caruana with 36.

Balls down the line went to Cameron McDonald 36, Warren Butcher and Luke Fitzgerald 35, Jason Chandler, Kynan Caruana and Chris Crane all on 34.

Nearest the pin on third went to Kynan Caruana, McDonald on the sixth, Robbie Cunningham on the 13th, and George McLean on the 16th.

The closest second shot on the ninth was struck by Chandler, and John Hill did the same on the 15th.

In the women’s field Chantal Butcher had the best score with 37, two ahead of runner-up Robyn Holcombe.

Balls down the line went to Bev Tyson 32, Pam White, Margie Hadley, Helen Holcmbe and Rita Walkom 31, Kerryn Price 29, and Liz Nichol 28.

Nearest the pin and superpin winner was Debbie Milne, who won $102 for her very good shot, while Holcombe was nearest the pin on the 16th,with Price hitting the closest second shot on the 15th hole.

Wednesday

A FIELD of 48 players participated in an Irish stableford event in teams of three.

The conditions were very challenging, as strong winds played havoc with shots and putting.

The winning team was Holcombe, Enid Smith and Lisa Murphy finishing with 69 points, one point ahead of runners-up, Lyn Satchell, Margie Hadley and Jenny Hurse.

Balls down the line went to Jo Forsyth, Deirdre Simkin and Helen Holcombe 65, and Tania Cullinane, Nettie Purvis and Alexandra Kelso 63.

Nearest the pin on the third hole was won by Anne Ryan, who also holed the longest putt on the 13th.

Joan Lewis was nearest the pin on the sixth hole, and Lyn Satchell on the 16th.

Tuesday

IT was warm but windy for the beginner and emerging golfer competition.

Louise Field was the winner in the beginner competition with 23 points, finishing well clear of runner-up, Kris Fox, on 18.

In the emerging group, Jen Upton and Joanna Austin both finished with 13.
