Bunker shots

WITH the course in magnificent condition, and the lovely spring weather, it was great to see a good field of 73 men and 17 women playing stableford on Saturday.

Wayne Riddle had a day out, playing off a handicap of three, posting the best score of the day with 41 points to win A grade from Dale Grambau and Luke Balkin, who both scored 37 points.

B grade saw Stephen Giles playing handy golf to win with 40 points from George McLean and Zac Elliott both on 38 points, while C grade was won by Michael Sobey with 40 points from Neville Osborn 38 points and Luke Fitzgerald 36.

Balls down the line went to Tim Walkenhorst, Mark O’Brien, Cameron Mcdonald and Mal Groves all having 37 points, and William Statery, Steven Coate, Noel Jennings and Brent Bell all with 36 points.

Nearest the pin on the third hole was Groves, the sixth went to Danny Franc, John Christie on the 13th, and the 16th hole - which was also the super pin hole - went to Sam Horne, who took home $108.

The closest second shot on the ninth hole went to Groves, and Luke Balkin on the 15th.

There were two eagles scored with Balkin on the fourth and Molly O’Brien on the 17th.

In the women’s event, Kerryn Price played beautiful golf to win with 40 points, with Rhonda Scullion also having a great day finishing one point off the pace.

Balls down the line went to O’Brien 38, Cheryl Brinkmann and Jenny Fishburn 37, Di Sevior 36 and Margie Hadley 35.

Nearest the pin on the third hole was won by Anne Ryan, the sixth hole went to Liz Nichol, the 16th was won by Cheryl Brinkmann, with the closest second shot on the 15th won by Price.

Wednesday

THERE were some very good scores in the women’s stableford event with Debbie Milne finishing with 40 points to take out A grade from Jeanette Carmichael on 38 points,

B grade was won by Bev Tyson who had the best score of the day with 41 to win by one from Gerri Griffin, while C grade honours went to Jen Upton with 38 points from Joan Lewis on 37.

Balls down the line went to Jo Forsyth 38, Marg King and Chantal Butcher both 37 points.

Nearest the pin on the third hole went to Carmichael, Tyson was closest on the 16th, while the longest putt on the 13th hole was won by Venita Mibus, and Ath Archer hit the closest second shot on the 15th.

Next week is the Monthly Medal stroke event.

Tuesday

A GOOD turnout for the beginners and emerging golfers with beautiful weather conditions.

Winner of the beginner’s group was Grant Hornell with 22 points from Lousie Field on 17.

In the emerging group the winner was Leigh Coggins with a great score of 27 points to win from Joanna Austin 22, and Louise Kelson 19.

THERE is lots on at the club over the upcoming month, plenty of golfing activities for all.

Our visiting professional golfer, Craig Davis, will be holding lessons on November 17, bookings are to be made with Marg King.

Junior golf has recommenced on a Sunday morning and is a great opportunity for younger members of our community to learn the game of golf.

A reminder to get your entry in for the Melbourne Cup Day two-person pinehurst event, men’s and women’s.

It is a 9am for 9.30am shotgun start, with a light lunch to follow; cost $60 a pair.

There will be a working bee on November 10, 9am to noon to help get the course tidied up for the upcoming annual tournament.

The club will be holding its Annual General Meeting on November 12 at 6.30pm at the clubhouse.

Entries are open for our annual tournament which is being held later this month, commencing with a women’s stroke event on November 20, followed by a men’s and women’s 4BBB on November 22.

The day after will be a mixture of a men’s stroke 36-hole championship as well as 18-hole stableford events for men and women, and the tournament concludes on November 24 with a four-person gentsomes.

Today is a stableford event for men and women.

Hit them long and straight and enjoy the 19th hole.
