Bunker shots

HAMILTON Golf Club’s annual tournament kicked off this week with the women playing a stroke day on Wednesday, followed by a 4BBB Par event for men and women yesterday.

Today are the men’s 36-hole stroke championships, as well as an 18-hole individual men’s and women’s stableford.

The tournament will conclude with a four-person gentsomes event tomorrow.

The club hosted Western District Health Service ambrose event last week, and it was wonderful to see 120 players out on the course, in ideal conditions.

A great fundraiser for our local hospital with approximately $19,000 being raised.

Saturday

IN hot, windy conditions, 54 men tackled the course for a par event, and Martin Pitts had a very good day finishing with +4 to take out A grade from Chuck Raymond +1 with Jason McIntosh rounding out the placings finishing square.

In B grade, Josh Sevior returned the best score of the day with a great +6, which should see his handicap drop.

Runner-up was Barry Raymond +4 with Rob Stagoll rounding out the placings on +3.

Balls down the line went to Ty Raymond and Robert Harris +2, Bruce Luhrs and Shane Ryan +1, John Andrews, Stuart McAdam and Michael Sobey square, along with Steven Coate and Stephen Astbury -1.

Well done to Chuck Raymond for scoring an eagle on the fourth hole.

Nearest the pin on the third was won by Terry Dunn, the sixth went to Shane Ryan, 13th Karl Dwyer, and 16th which was also the super pin hole went to John Warden, taking home $66.

The closest second shot on the ninth went to Ken Wright and Shannon Kearns on the 15th.

Wednesday

THE women played the first event in the annual tournament, which was a stroke event.

Winner of A grade scratch score was Sue Walter with 79 off the stick from runner-up, Molly O’Brien, on 83.

A grade handicap was won by Robyn Holcombe 72 nett from Sue Vickery with 73 nett.

B grade scratch winner was Fran McMeel with 98, from Gerri Griffin 100 on a countback.

B grade handicap winner was Pam Howell 71 nett from Jenny Fishburn 73 nett.

C grade scratch winner was Marlene Clarke 104 from Rhonda Scullion 107 on a countback.

C grade handicap winner was Joan Lewis 70 nett from Eileen Robertson 72 nett.

Winner of the Margo Young Bowl team of three was Joan Lewis, Eileen Robertson and Jenny Hurse with a total combined score of 216.

Nearest the pin on the third hole were local winner Robyn Holcombe and visitor Margie McIntyre, the sixth went to Rita Walkom, Jenny Hurse and Marion Venn on the 13th, and Kerryn Price and Ellen Zeunert on the 16th.

Tuesday

THERE was a good turnout from the beginner and emerging golfers, where Grant Hornell continued his great form to win the beginner section with 19 points, five ahead of Kris Fox.

The emerging group was won by Sarah Laidlaw with 22 points from Leigh Coggins on 17 and Joanna Austin on 16.

A DATE to look out for is the annual Christmas ambrose on December 15.

Hit them long and straight and enjoy the 19th hole.
