A BIG field of 99 players participated in the annual Christmas ambrose in very warm conditions.
The winning team was Jon Manson, Hamish Waldron, Brendan Lang and Rory Gill with 53 3/8.
Runners-up were Warren Butcher, Chantal Butcher, Jason Chandler and Meg Chandler after scoring 54, while third place went to Kevin King, Pam King, David Robertson and Fiona Robertson with 55¼
Rob Cunningham, Gavin McCarthy, Bernie Cook and Marie Cook combined to score 55½ to finish fourth.
Nearest the pins went to Pam King and Stuart McAdam on the third, the sixth was won by Alma Fonda and Luke Fitzgerald, the 13th went to Fonda and Andy Lamont, while Robertson and Shaun Renfry saluted on the 16th.
The longest drive on the 18th was struck by Molly O’Brien and Luke Fitzgerald, nearest the string on the fifth was Rhonda Scullion and Andrew Henstridge, while Phil Schultz holed the longest putt on the 18th.
Lucky card winners were Tania Cullinane, Di Sevior, Listy Murphy and Jen Upton.
A couple of the men’s major awards were announced with the winner of the Hamilton Golf Club Cup for 2024 going to Graham Rentsch with 460, which is the best six scratch scores played over the Monthly Medal rounds.
The next best score came from Jason Chandler on 468.
The other major trophy was the Captain's Trophy for the six best nett rounds over the Monthly Medal rounds, which was won by Nathan Caruana with 428 from Graham Rentsch on 430.
Saturday
SATURDAY saw the final of the Medal of Medallists at the club.
The following players had won Monthly Medals during the year - Ben Kelson, Gary McFarlane, Martin Pitts, Howard Templeton, Trevor Haley, Aiden Christie, Tom Sobey, Shannon Kearns and Barry Groves.
The best stroke score returned in the final was Sobey with a 70 nett, closely followed by Kelson with 72.
Stuart McAdam had the best score of the day in the men’s stableford competition, finishing with 43 points to take out A grade ahead of runner-up, Chuck Raymond, with 41, and rounding out the placings was Heath Cay with 38.
B grade was won by Jack Sobey with 42 points, three clear of runner-up, Nicholas Armstrong, while third place went to Bevon Zimmermann with 37.
Balls down the line went to Warren Butcher, Troy Elliott and Zac Elliott 37, Tim Brody, Doug Ward, Ross Milne and Brendan Lang 36, along with Jim King and Michael Sobey with 35.
Nearest the pin on the third hole and superpin winner was Wayne Riddle, who took home $95.
Nearest the pin on the 16th was Cay, while the closest second shot on the ninth was won by Troy Elliott and Armstrong on the 15th.
Margie Hadley had a day out, scoring a fabulous 43 points to be the clear winner in the women’s field, easily finishing ahead of runner-up, Tania Cullinane, who claimed second on a countback with 34 points.
Balls down the line went to Lyn O’Brien 34, Chantal Butcher 32, and Di Raymond 31.
Nearest the pin on the third was won by Gerri Griffin, while Hadley was nearest the pin on the 16th and also struck the closest second shot on the 15th.
Wednesday
SOME very good scores were recorded in the women’s stableford event, with player of the day going to newcomer, Joanna Austin, who finished with 41 points to win B grade from Bronwyn Dwight on 38.
The A grade winner was Glen Dixon, who also had a very good round finishing with 38, finishing one clear of runner-up was Sally Warburton on 37.
Balls down the line went to Judy Pekin and Judy Thornton 36, O’Brien 35, Bev Tyson, Enid Smith and Venita Mibus 34, and Scullion and Robyn Holcombe on 33.
Nearest the pin on the sixth hole was Dixon, O’Brien on the 16th, the longest putt on the 13th was holed by Pekin, and the closest second shot on the 15th went to Kavell Lyons.
In the nine-hole competition, Anne Ryan returned the best score with 15 points to win by five from Jen Upton.
