THE forwards had a weekend dining out on some poor defence in round two of the Glenelg Region Hockey Association men’s and women’s division one games, with 41 goals netted across the six games played.
Men’s Division 1
Couldabeens d Demons
THE round started on Friday evening with top of the ladder Couldabeens tackling last-placed Demons at Brian Roberts Field, and despite the gap between these teams in the rankings, the game was very entertaining with 10 goals scored.
Couldabeens ended on the right side of the ledger with a 7-3 scoreline, but the Demons took the game right up to their more fancied opponents.
The ball flashed from end to end, as the teams played an open attacking brand of hockey, and the two goalies had a tough time keeping their respective goals defended.
Alex Prince, Charley Falla, David Merrin, and Edmond Lyon (twice) added their names to the scoresheet for Couldabeens, while Demons replied through Greg Irvin, Rory Steff, and James Stubbs.
College d Jakabytes
SUNDAY afternoon’s early timeslot saw College power past Jakabytes, 6-1, as again the strikers took all their chances created in front of goals.
Harry Brown, Henry Dorahy, Jack Jarvis, and Isaac Shaw (two) were ruthless with their finishing, as the Jakabytes’ defence failed to quell the attacking raids.
Bulls d Rams
THE closest contest of the round was the final game on Sunday afternoon, as Bulls got over the line against Rams, 3-2, in another entertaining game.
The result could have gone either way, as the players swapped goals and the lead with both teams attacking all game, but goals from Tim Dean and William Templeton turned the tide in Bulls’ favour.
Women’s Division 1
College d Coleraine Black
THE weekend started with a tightly contested game between Coleraine Black and College in the early time slot on Friday evening, with College taking the points, 1-0.
Little indication was given of the goalfest that was to come across the weekend with the defences of both teams standing resolute against the attacking raids at each end of the pitch.
It was a lone goal from Lily Cush which handed College its first victory of the season, and third place on the ladder, while Coleraine Black is still to post a win and sits fifth.
Dunkeld Blue d Demons
SUNDAY morning and the wave of goals from the Dunkeld Blue team left Brian Roberts Field awash with a 12-0 result that left both teams at opposite ends of the premiership ladder.
Grace Potter and Ella Peters netted four times each, while Elizabeth Van Rechteren, Jessica Hein, Penny Heard, and Phoebe Lazzari also added their names to the scoresheet to complete the rout.
Dunkeld White d Coleraine Stripes
THE ladies of Dunkeld White made it a double celebration for the club with a 6-0 defeat of Coleraine Stripes in the later timeslot on Sunday.
Dunkeld White joined its sister team atop the ladder with two wins from the opening two rounds, but sit second on goal difference, after Emma Lewis (three), Joanna MacLeod (two), and Jen McArthur all put the ball in the back of the net.
Coleraine Stripes are still in the top four after an opening round win, but another result like this will see them drop out quickly.
