Penshurst maintain pace as Tigers falter

PENSHURST has maintained its winning form in the Mininera and District Netball League as they dismantled Woorndoo-Mortlake at Penshurst Recreation Reserve courts on Saturday, 53 to 37.

The victory keeps the Bombers in fourth place on the premiership ladder and in touch with Hawkesdale-Macarthur, which had the bye this week, equal on points but behind on percentage.

The Bombers took control of the match from the opening whistle as they opened a seven-goal lead at the first break and from there the home side extended their lead at every change.

Rachael Mibus with 47-goals was the focal point for the home side but Brooke Lenehan added six goals in support as Leah Mirtschin gave the team drive to be judged best on court.

Sarah Cameron with 25-goals tried hard to keep the Tigers in the contest but Penshurst refused to be headed as they recorded a comfortable victory.

Other Games

GLENTHOMPSON-DUNKELD let a huge opportunity slip through its fingers as it failed to take the points at Glenthompson Recreation Reserve courts on Saturday against Great Western going down 37 to 42 at home.

The Rams were jumped by the Lions in the first quarter as the visitors got away to a flying start in opening an eight-goal gap at the first change of ends, 5 to 13.

Finally, the home side turned up after that initial quarter and from then on, they scored 32 goals to 29 but the damage had been done and the Rams found it too hard to claw back that initial deficit.

SMW ROVERS and Moyston-Willaura had a great battle at Conna Wilson Reserve courts as the Bulldogs came from behind to take the points against the Pumas, 47 to 38.

The Pumas started well with a 14-goal first term that saw them take a four-goal lead into the first break, but the home side rallied to post 15 goals in the second quarter that handed them the lead at the main break, and they were never headed after that.

Taylah Fisher and Zoe Wagstaff stood tall for the home side while Kate Keilar and Chelsea Wilson battled hard for the visitors.

TATYOON proved why it’s on top of the ladder with an impressive run away win over Lismore-Derrinallum at Tatyoon Recreation Reserve courts, 79 to 15.

Emma Inverarity (34) Maggie Astbury (29) Grace Astbury (16) scored goals at will for the home team while Anita Burchell (13) Lauren McLennan (2) did their best with limited opportunities.

CARAMUT hosted second placed Ararat on Saturday at the Caramut Recreation Reserve courts and the home side was no match for the high-flying Eagles, going down 14 to 62.

Lillyan Molloy (32) Kira Stapleton (19) Taryn Kelly (11) all shot well for the visitors while Carmel Meade had a lone hand in scoring for the home side.
