IT was yet another positive performance from the Hamilton Kangaroos Open team, accounting for Terang-Mortlake by 12 goals away from home in Hampden Football Netball League (HFNL) round 14 action on Saturday.
In wet, cold and slippery conditions, the first quarter was a close contest as both teams adjusted to the playing conditions.
It was a see-sawing battle with neither team able to claim an advantage with scores locked 9-9 at the first break.
In the second quarter, the Roos stepped up their game and controlled possession more often, along with an increase in defensive pressure.
The visitors edged clear and went into the main break with a five-goal lead, 22-17.
From there, the blue and white controlled the contest, winning the third quarter by two goals before going on to record a 44-32 victory.
It was made all the more impressive with coach, Nat O’Dea, unavailable for the game with Tracey Barnes taking on the main role.
Leesa Iredell was the standout for the visitors, particularly in the second half.
Her efforts in attack to feed the goalies led to plenty of scoring chances, while Kelsey Lewis and Kellie Sommerville were also pivotal to the result.
Lewis again topped the goals list with 31, continuing her strong form in goal shooter.
Aimee Moloney was named the Bloods’ best, while Eboni Knights put up 17 goals for the home team in the loss.
With finals unlikely, the team will be hoping to fight out the season positively with a home match-up against South Warrnambool scheduled for Saturday.
