Bombers flying high to claim double chance

PENSHURST continued to fly high, as the Bombers grabbed second spot ahead of the Mininera and District Netball Association finals with a dominant victory against Caramut at home, 61-35, on Saturday.

It was a compete performance from the Bombers who never lost a term and dominated from the outset.

The red and black opened with a 15-goal first term, before repeating the feat in the second quarter to lead by eight goals at the main break.

A 31 goals to 13 second half - including an 18-goal final term - ensured the Bombers claimed the win

The victory lifted the Bombers in second place after Hawkesdale-Macarthur lost to Ararat and Penshurst will now battle Ararat.

HAWKESDALE-Macarthur has lost its double chance in the finals after going down to Ararat at home on Saturday, 36-44.

  Ararat entered the game sitting fourth on the ladder by percentage and Hawkesdale-Macarthur was favoured to take the points but this was always going to be an arm wrestle, as both teams refused to give an inch.

The visitors grabbed the early lead after the first term, but Hawkesdale-Macarthur battled its way back into the match to draw level at the long break.

  The home team carried that form into the third quarter and when the siren blew for the final change of ends, Hawkesdale-Macarthur was only a goal behind and an upset was definitely up for grabs.

  Ararat proved in the last stanza why it is going to be tough to defeat in the finals, as the team dug deep to take its performance up a gear and added 12 goals to five for the home side to run out eight-goal winners and take third spot going into finals.

The loss saw Hawkesdale-Macarthur fall from second place on the ladder down to fourth and now the Eagles can’t afford to lose a game with the team in a knockout pathway towards the decider.

Maddie Kelly top-scored for the home team with 26, while Josie Barker was best on court for Hawkesdale-Macarthur.

GLENTHOMPSON-DUNKELD made the road trip to Moyston to face the Pumas and the Rams finished the season with a win.

The visitors set up the win with a 14-5 first quarter, with the Rams extending the lead out to 13 goals at the main break.

From then on, Glenthompson-Dunkeld controlled the contest to win, 58-31.

Nicky Lowe and Jo Amott were the standouts for the Rams, the latter putting up a game-high 24 goals.

LISMORE-DERRINALLUM recorded a dominant 51-24 victory at home against Great Western.

TATYOON rounded out its undefeated home and away season with an 81-23 win on the road against Woorndoo-Mortlake.
