TYRENDARRA and Dartmoor have advanced to this weekend’s South West District Netball League A grade season finale at Heywood, with both teams expected to be at full strength for the encounter.
These teams have arguably been the best two performed teams of the competition this season and it is fitting they meet on court one last time in 2022.
Both clubs recruited well in the off season with Tyrendarra grabbing Hannah Van Gemst to play goal attack, while Dartmoor signed nine players for 2022, including champion goal shooter, Danielle Van Kalken.
The rivalry between the sides has been evident since round two, when Dartmoor tipped the form line on its head with a 19-goal victory away from home after losing in the first round, only for the Darras to repay the favour in round nine.
The two teams have met four times this season with the ledger balanced at two wins apiece, but the latest meeting saw the Darras come away with a 46-43 semi-final victory.
The win ensured Tyrendarra entered the grand final fully refreshed, whereas Dartmoor had to get past a determined Cavendish side in the preliminary final.
Everywhere you look on court there are stars for each team and there is not a weak link among them, from defence to attack.
When one thinks that a team has the game in hand, the opposition causes a turnover against the run of play and the ball is back up the other end and momentum is turned on its head.
Both teams are expected to be at full strength for the game and having played each other four times this season, it already means that there should be no surprises.
“We had Leesa Logan knocked down and hurt on Saturday against Cavendish, injuring her knee, so we are waiting the week out to see if she’ll play, but it’s looking like she’ll be on the court,” Dartmoor coach, Elise Haw said.
“They finished on top of the ladder for a reason, as they play a fast game which we can easily get wrapped up in, but we know what we must do, but it’s whether we can get in control of the game early enough to do so.
“They have a very tall side which we have to be mindful of but there is nobody in particular we have to be mindful of as they have a solid team from one end of the court to the other.”
The Darras have been the top team on the ladder from the outset and has remained consistent throughout the 2022 campaign.
“We're as full strength as we can be this year, but we've been managing players throughout the season and can expect to go into the game with our full line-up,” Tyrendarra coach, Rani Kane said.
“We're expecting a tough game, but we know their strengths across the court and their ability to grind the game out, so we know it'll be four full quarters of high intensity netball.
“There are no players from Dartmoor we particularly focus on when it comes to the game, it's about being accountable across the eight to nine players that are there.
“You can't dribble a ball in netball, and you can't walk with it, so you have to rely on each player on court playing their role and being a threat and that's the same when it comes to looking at your opponent,” Kane said.
The match will be played out at the Heywood Recreation Reserve, on court one at 2.30pm on Saturday.
