HAMILTON Kangaroos has come from behind in its Hampden Football Netball League Division 1 qualifying final to defeat Port Fairy, 42-37, at Victoria Park on Saturday.
The Kangaroos were behind for the first three quarters of the game, as the Seagulls took control of the game from the first whistle, increasing their lead from four goals at the first change of ends to five goals at the long break.
The blue and white returned to the court for the third term, determined to take the game to the Seagulls and the momentum of the game turned, as the Kangaroos started to claw the margin back to only a single goal by the last change of ends.
The domination from the Kangaroos continued into the last term with the team posting a further 12 goals to six from the Seagulls, to claim a five-goal victory.
The Roos’ win advanced them to the second semi-final against minor premier, Koroit, at Friendlies Society Park on Saturday.
Indiana Ryan, Anastasia Walsh and Mel Robertson were instrumental in the victory, but the whole squad lifted after half-time to ensure the Kangaroos retained the double chance in the finals.
PORTLAND eliminated Cobden at the Gardens Oval on Sunday with a solid seven-goal victory to set up an enticing game with Port Fairy next Sunday at Cobden.
Division 2
HAMILTON Kangaroos were behind all game against Cobden at Port Fairy’s Gardens Oval in the Division 2 elimination final on Sunday, as it went down 26-40, to bow out for the 2022 season.
Joe McKew and Sharney Millard played their hearts out trying to get the Kangaroos across the line, but it wasn’t to be as Cobden proved too strong for the fifth-placed Roos.
KOROIT proved too strong for South Warrnambool in the qualifying final, winning 43-36.
Division 3
THE Kangaroos entered the Division 3 qualifying final with South Warrnambool looking to advance straight into the second semi-final next week, but the Roosters proved to be tough opposition on the day, winning 24-22.
The two teams were locked together on the scoreboard for the first three quarters, and at the last change of ends the score stood at 19-19 in a very defensive encounter.
The final term saw the Roosters grab an important single goal gap which they promptly doubled to take the game by that margin and relegate the Kangaroos to the first semi-final next week against Koroit at Cobden on Sunday.
Ellen Casey, Ebony Wilson and Jessica Beattie battled hard all game long for the Kangaroos, but it just wasn’t to be on the day.
KOROIT ended Warrnambool’s campaign with an, 29-26 victory at the Gardens Oval on Sunday to set up a meeting with the Kangaroos next week.
17-and-Under
HAMILTON Kangaroos came from behind at half-time in the 17-and-Under elimination final on Sunday at Gardens Oval against South Warrnambool to record a slim 32-31 victory.
The Kangaroos were behind at the first change of ends and at the long break, but the third term saw the team rally to draw level at three quarter time, before finishing stronger to record a great one-goal triumph.
Ailish Murfett and Ruby Couch were the best on court for the Kangaroos, while Kate Noseda did a great job in goals assisting Murfett.
COBDEN defeated Camperdown on Saturday at Koroit, 47-43 to advance to the second semi-final while the Hamilton Kangaroos will play the Magpies at Cobden on Sunday.
15-and-Under
HAMILTON Kangaroos saw its season grind to a sudden halt at the hands of Camperdown in the 15-and-Under elimination final at Gardens Oval, as the Roos went down, 27-19, on Sunday.
The Kangaroos clawed their way back into the contest with a strong second term which saw them fall behind at the last change of ends by only three goals, but Camperdown regrouped to take out the game by seven goals, with Keely Beaton being the best on court for the Kangaroos.
COBDEN was favoured to defeat South Warrnambool in the qualifying final, but the Roosters had other ideas and took the game, 27-24, to advance to the second semi-final next Saturday.
Open
COBDEN is one win away from the Open season decider after accounting for Koroit by 14 goals in Saturday’s qualifying final.
North Warrnambool Eagles held off Warrnambool in the elimination final on Sunday with a 46-40 win to keep their premiership hopes alive.
13-and-Under
SOUTH Warrnambool made light work of North Warrnambool Eagles with a 16-goal win in the qualifying final at Victoria Park.
Cobden kept its season alive with a four-goal win against Terang-Mortlake in the elimination final.
