Red and black victory for 15-and-Under team

PENSHURST’S 15-and-Under netballers held off Lismore-Derrinallum to claim Mininera and District Netball Association (MDNA) premiership success, 23-18.

A 5-5 first term kept the crowd involved, before the Bombers edged clear by four goals in the second term and went into half time ahead, 12-8.

From there, the Demons were unable to reel in the deficit and the Bombers went on to win by five goals.

Lismore-Derrinallum’s Jess Miller was named best on court.

Penshurst coach, Annie Mullins said the premiership win was a great reward for the hard work the girls had put in during the year.

“A lot of hard work and a lot of dedication and the girls held it together and won,” she said.

“It was tough, we knew we were going to be in for a tough battle.

“The girls remained composed and everything they learnt this year, they brought it together and got the win.”

Along with the pressure of a grand final, Mullins said the team handled all elements well and would learn a lot from the game.

“Conditions were different today, different umpires, the atmosphere, the nerves, the girls managed to compose themselves and I am very proud of all the girls,” she said.

“Erika Shepherd, our captain, ran the centre court really well.

“Noni Blanchett worked consistently for four quarters in goal defence today and our goal attack Anna Rentsch and goal shooter, Ava Sobey, adjusted their game according to what they needed to do.”
