PORTLAND netballer Jasper Smith celebrated her 100th match lining up for the Tigers on the weekend, with her division two side getting the win over Warrnambool 36-31.
Save for a brief stint at Westerns Netball Club in the South West District Netball League, Smith has played all of her junior and senior netball for the Portland Football Netball Club.
“I started at Portland in the (13-and-under) side, and made my way through there,” she said.
“I played some (17-and-under) netball with Westerns, but since came back to play seniors here.
“It was a really cool milestone to reach, I wasn’t expecting it to pop up when it did, so it was a nice surprise.”
The division two squad has enjoyed plenty of success on court so far this season, winning eight out of their 10 games thus far to be sitting second on the ladder by percentage.
“It’s been a really good year, the girls have been really great, and we’ve been supporting one another on and off the court,” Smith said.
“They’re a great bunch of girls to play with, our two coaches Bec (Payne) and Casey (Anson)… we’re all lucky to be around each other.
“The plan is to hold on to one of those top two spots until the end of the season, it’s been a challenging season because you never quite know what each team is going to throw at you… it’s been very close and very exciting.”
Smith said she wanted to thank Portland and all the people she has played alongside and been coached by over the years, along with her parents who she said have been by her side the whole way.
“Without (my parents) I obviously would never have been able to stay involved in netball as a junior, so a big thank you has to go to them,” she said.
