Season on the line for Bombers and Demons

THE 2023 Mininera and District Netball Association season is on the line for both Penshurst and Lismore-Derrinallum when the two teams meet at Penshurst Recreation Reserve today, with the loser likely to miss the finals.

After 13 rounds, both teams are locked together on 36 points, but Lismore-Derrinallum holds fifth place from Penshurst through a greater percentage.

With two rounds remaining after this weekend, both teams still have a game against second placed Ararat to play, while the Bombers also play Caramut, and the Demons play an in-form Glenthompson-Dunkeld to round out the home and away season.

The result of this game should decide which of the two teams goes on to play finals if the results of the final two rounds go as expected.

The Bombers will look to Lydia Ewing, Elise Hirst and Rachael Mibus to continue to shoot well in the goal circle, while Sophie Rentsch will no doubt take care of business in the back court.

The visitors have goal circle fire power of their own with Anita Burchell and Rachel Vagg shooting brilliantly against Great Western last weekend as Paris Murray and Annabelle Arnold sent the ball their way from the centre to earn best on court against the Lions.

Other games

HAWKESDALE-MACARTHUR travels to Glenthompson Recreation Reserve to battle its hosts Glenthompson-Dunkeld knowing that this is a danger game as the Rams had been on a winning streak until defeat at the hands of Penshurst last Saturday.

The Rams had won six straight games going into last Saturday, but a gap of six goals at the first break against Penshurst spelt the end of their streak as they failed to close the margin by full time.

The Eagles currently sit on the fourth rung of the ladder and victory in this match will all but cement a finals spot as either Penshurst or Lismore-Derrinallum, who are hard on the Eagles heels - a game behind, will find it hard to regain the lost ground from a loss this afternoon in the remaining two games.

WOORNDOO-MORTLAKE will take the points from Caramut at Woorndoo Recreation Reserve as the Swans have not had their best season and haven’t won a game on court since round six when they accounted for Great Western.

The Tigers enter the game fully refreshed after having the bye last week and will use the game as a warm up for their final two rounds when they play top five teams Hawkesdale-Macarthur and Tatyoon.

GREAT WESTERN will need a complete form reversal to defeat Ararat at Great Western Recreation Reserve as the Lions host the second placed Eagles.

The Lions have only won a single game to date this season and the last time these teams met was back in round three when the Eagles posted a 59-goal victory.
