Eagles tame Rams to undefeated

ARARAT EAGLES has maintained its undefeated start to the Mininera and District Netball Association season with a solid performance against Glenthompson-Dunkeld at Alexandra Oval on Saturday, winning 48 to 36.

Both teams entered the game without any losses after the first three rounds and the visitors had to play catch-up netball after the Eagles started at a fast pace by holding a nine-goal lead at the first break.

The Rams turned the ball over too many times, which allowed the home side to capitalize on transition ball and quickly had the ball in the hands of the shooters.

Despite winning the second term, Glenthompson-Dunkeld was still six goals adrift of its hosts at the long break, and Ararat Eagles returned to the court for the second half determined to increase its hard-earned lead.

The Rams had seemingly only one avenue to goal with star goal shooter, Jane Robertson, scoring 33 goals from her 41 shots, while Eve Duckmanton and Elise Bibby managed only another six shots between them.

Hawkesdale-Macarthur d Penshurst

HAWKESDALE-MACARTHUR spoilt the Penshurst 150-year celebrations at Penshurst Recreation Reserve on Saturday by defeating the home side, 38 to 25.

The visitors had to come from behind after trailing at both the quarter and half-time breaks, as they started to run more and turn over possession with regularity in the second half.

The Bombers came out in the first half, riding on the emotion of the day to lead by three goals at the long break, but a 14 goals to four third term saw the Eagles swoop the home side off the court, as the final margin hit 13 goals.

Olivia Twaddle was mainly on target for the Eagles with 22 goals on her own as goal shooter, while Libby Rentsch with 16 was the focal point for the Penshurst attack.

Other games

TATYOON swept Moyston-Willaura aside, 76 to 20, at Willaura Recreation Reserve to maintain top spot on the ladder and increase its percentage.

Maggie Astbury was best on court for the Hawks, netting 42 points on her own to guide the visitors to another victory, but it’s the defence that should also be acclaimed, as it has yet to allow 100 goals for the season to date.

Caramut Recreation Reserve was the venue for the closest game of the round, as SMW Rovers had to come from a one-point deficit at three-quarter time to overpower the Swans, 30-33.

Woorndoo-Mortlake had a comfortable victory over Great Western at Woorndoo Recreation Reserve with the home side posting a 58 to 18 victory.

The Tigers have now won their last three games and sit fourth on the ladder equal with Glenthompson-Dunkeld but just behind on percentage.

Lismore-Derrinallum travelled to Lake Bolac Recreation Reserve where the Demons recorded a hard earned 11-goal victory against Wickliffe-Lake Bolac.

The visitors won the first three quarters to hold a 12-goal lead at three-quarter time, only for the Magpies to come back in the last term but the gap was just too great.
