Eagles knock off rams to remain in flag contention

HAWKESDALE-MACARTHUR remains alive in the Mininera and District Netball Association A grade premiership race with a five-goal elimination final win against Glenthompson-Dunkeld on Sunday.

It was a seesawing first term, with Hawkesdale-Macarthur taking a one-goal lead into the first change of ends.

The lead grew out to three goals by half time, before a 10 goals to four third term saw the Eagles nine goals clear at the final break.

The Rams’ defence tightened up in the last quarter and kept Hawkesdale-Macarthur to just four goals, while adding eight at the other end, but fell short at the final whistle, 27-32.

Olivia Twaddle top-scored for the Eagles with 24 goals, while Jane Robertson put up 25 goals for the Rams.

Lismore-Derrinallum ended Tatyoon’s season after the Demons won the B grade clash, 33-30, despite the best efforts of Elizabeth Goodman, who put up 25 goals for the Hawks.

Tatyoon had the narrowest of wins in the C grade elimination final to stay alive in the premiership race, defeating Woorndoo-Mortlake, 21-20.

Ararat Eagles are out of the 18-and-Under competition after losing 17-26 against Lismore-Derrinallum.

Penshurst extended its 15-and-Under season for at least another week after the Bombers defeated Great Western, 26-12.

Abbey Crawford was a standout for the winners with 17 goals.

The Rams remain in contention for a 13-and-Under grand final spot after they got the better of Lismore-Derrinallum, 24-13, in the elimination final.

Qualifying finals

TATYOON got the better of Woorndoo-Mortlake in the A grade qualifying final on Saturday, winning 48-32.

Hawkesdale-Macarthur fell short in the B grade qualifying final against the Tigers, 38-16, despite 11 goals from Eliza Cozens.

Ararat Eagles and Caramut faced off in the C grade match-up, with Ararat winning the qualifying final, 28-23.

Penshurst took a big step towards the 18-and-Under premiership, defeating Caramut, 30-16.

Anna Rentsch put up 17 goals for the Bombers, while Emilie Tonissen top-scored for the Swans with 11 goals.

Glenthompson-Dunkeld got the better of Tatyoon in the 15-and-Under qualifying final, winning 22-19, off the back of 14 goals from Charlotte Alderman.

Caramut had a big win over Tatyoon in the 13-and-Under game, outworking the Hawks to claim a 26-7 victory.

Yolie O’Sullivan finished with 16 goals for the Swans to be the game’s top-scorer.
