THE Hamilton Kangaroos finished off their 2024 Open netball campaign with a draw against fourth-placed Warrnambool at Dunkeld on Saturday.
The Roos started slowly, putting up 10 goals in the opening term to go into the first change of ends trailing by five goals, before both teams scored 13 goals in the second quarter to see the margin stay at five goals at half time.
The visitors rallied in the third term, scoring 16 goals to the Roos’ 13, and with the margin sitting at eight goals at the final break, the game looked all but over.
Hamilton wasn’t giving up though, and fought hard in the final term, closing the deficit with a strong defensive effort keeping the Blues to just eight goals for the quarter, while scoring 16 at the other end to see the game end in a 52-52 draw.
Saskia Gould finished with 28 goals for the Roos, while Kellie Sommerville was named the team’s best on court.

THE Hamilton Kangaroos stitched up second spot on the Division 1 ladder with a 52-41 victory against Warrnambool.
A seven-goal advantage at half time turned into an 11-goal victory, thanks to 26 goals each from Hayley Sherlock and Kelsey Lewis.
The Kangaroos’ Division 2 team fell short of the Blues, going down 37-45, despite the best efforts of Sophie Robinson and 22 goals from Molly Sevior.
It was a tight Division 3 contest, with Hamilton falling just short at the final whistle, 27-30, in what was the team’s only loss for the season.
Lily Raymond top-scored for the Roos with 19 goals, while Joe McKew was named the team’s best player, as the team claimed the minor premiership.
Hamilton put up a strong effort in the 17-and-Under clash, losing to Warrnambool, 30-38, despite the best efforts of Skye Kissel and Grace Cleaver (21 goals).
The 15-and-Under Roos stitched up second spot on the ladder with a 38-16 victory, with Saskia Gould’s 19 goals leading the way alongside an impressive performance from Mia Spong.
The 15-and-Under Reserves clash also went the way of the Kangaroos, 34-25, with Lily Raymond impressing with a 26-goal performance for the winners, while Eliza Smith was also pivotal to the result, which saw the team finish in fourth spot.
The 13-and-Under side finished third after a 28-8 final round win against the Blues, with Ava Kinnealy (12 goals) and Leni Robertson (11 goals) leading the way in the goal circle, while Taya Sherlock also impressed for the winners.
The 13-and-Under Reserves finished the home and away season with a 21-12 victory, and ensuring the team finished in second spot on the ladder.
Evie Milne put up 11 goals and Willow Colliton added 10 for the Roos, while Hannah Carroll was named Hamilton’s standout player.
