FREE entry and free buses are on offer for punters after this Sunday’s 2022 bet365 Apsley Cup was transferred from Edenhope Racecourse to Casterton.
The change of venue was made after the racetrack at Edenhope was deemed unfit to host the day’s races.
Racing Victoria announced the track had been inspected last Wednesday, 1 June after recent drainage works and was determined to require additional time to consolidate.
Apsley Racing Club secretary, Tammy Pretlove said the move had made preparations for the cup meeting tricky.
“The Apsley committee is still going to try and put on a good race day – there’s still marquee packages available for purchase,” she said.
The announcement comes after the Edenhope Cup meeting in March was abandoned after three races due to the detection of an unstable section of track.
The Edenhope Racing Club had said a prior inspection approved the track for races but a part of the original infrastructure gave way during the day which “could not have been foreseen”.
Competitors at the Apsley Cup meeting in Casterton this Sunday, 12 June will be racing for shares in $225,000 prize money across eight races.
Admission for the cup meeting is being made free by the Casterton Racing Club and refunds have been offered to those who have purchased tickets.
Free bus services to the cup meeting will also be available in Apsley, Poolaijelo, Edenhope, Harrow and Coleraine – times were yet to be confirmed at the time of print.
