THE Coleraine Racing Club has gained an extra meeting after racing was transferred from Warrnambool due to the soddened condition of the track.
Racing Victoria made the decision last Wednesday to move today’s meeting, which now gives the local club three race dates for the season.
The club will also race on August 14 and September 23, hosting the Great Western Steeplechase and Coleraine Cup meetings on the respective dates.
Today the seven-race program will race on a surface rated a Slow5 yesterday.
Not surprisingly, being a transferred Warrnambool meeting the seaside trainers look likely to dominate most races.
The two opening Highweight races are highlighted by Peter Chow and Symon Wilde, who have key players in Shesablinder and Bazini respectively.
Shesablinder has placed twice from three runs in better Maidens for Chow, while Bazini can earn some Jericho Cup points by winning the Matko Hire BM78 Handicap over 3000m.
An easy Bendigo winner last start, Bazini should prove too good, with Bear Arms his only danger.
Wilde can make it a quick double with Darci’s Debut in the Matko Hire 4YO+ Maiden Plate over 1300m.
Narrowly beaten at Warrnambool last start, the four-year-old mare can make amends with Linda Meech likely to lead and dictate the race.
Nijiki, trained by Maddie Raymond, should improve off a debut fourth at Ballarat and looks the main danger.
One of my best bets is in the Cassign 0-64 Handicap over 1400m.
The lightly raced Atomic Gold is first-up for Daniel Bowman, but his previous form suggests he is a nice galloper in the making.
A strong win at Werribee last preparation when racing on speed is solid form for today’s race.
His other two runs were close-up fourths behind smart gallopers, Red Octane and Timson.
Melissa Julius takes the ride, and with good speed likely to come from topweight Anirishman, the pair should get a nice just off the speed.
Summit Queen, trained by Lindsey Smith, also looks very hard to beat in the Cassign BM58 over 1000m.
Three career runs have netted a win and a handy last start fifth at Sandown when beaten less than three lengths.
Leading country rider for the 2021-22 season, Jarrod Fry, takes the reins and should give him a flying start into the new season.
The run of Warrnambool trained wins could end with Bedouin King in the TAB BM58 Handicap over 1600m.
Jackie Beriman trains and will ride the rejuvenated galloper, hoping for a similar result to his easy win at Casterton nine days ago.
Warrnambool pair, Fabalot and The Rattlin Bog, look the main dangers.
The final race of the day looks Geraldine’s Jewel race to lose.
The Maddie Raymond-trained mare is in great form, winning both starts this preparation.
Despite carrying topweight of 60.5kg, expect her to race handy and be too strong late in the race.
Garbo and Navillus Excel are both racing well, while last start Warrnambool winner The Silent Sermo is worth some thought for the exotic punters.
Good punting.
