Racing returns to Hamilton

THE Hamilton Racing Club will host a competitive card of thoroughbred racing on Monday.

Eight races have been programmed with the first commencing at 1.30pm and the last at 5pm.

The track at the time of acceptances on Friday morning was rated a Slow7, but with the forecast of significant rain over the weekend, that could change come race day.

Once again the club has catered for the jumps jockeys with two highweight races helping the boys keep their eye in during the off-season.

In-form trainer, Paul Preusker, looks to have a good hand in both events with Makpin and Bruno Stars my selections in the two staying races over 2200m.

Palantus, a half-brother to multiple Group 1 winner Palentino, looks set to go one place further after his debut second here in September.

From the leading stable of Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, the three-year-old has drawn well in barrier five and gets the service of Group 1 winning jockey, John Allen.

A horse that should start at good odds is Steel Raider in the Ace Radio Maiden Plate over 1100m.

A trial winner at Burrumbeet earlier this month, the Shay Keating debutant may give his rivals something to chase if he can bring that trial form to the races.

Mornington trainer, Matt Laurie, looks to have key runners in the first three legs of the quadrella.

Jet De Lune ran very well at Echuca last start and looks well-placed out to 1600m; Federation Rocks drop backs from city class, which includes a second at Moonee Valley, while Side Bet looks a good bet with Linda Meech riding.

Punters might be able to head home winning if consistent mare, Culily Ace, can knock over a deserved win in the final race.

Three runner-up cheques from her last four runs shows her consistency, including a narrow loss at Sandown.

Any deterioration in the track will not worry this mare who will be ridden by regular jockey, Melissa Julius.

Trudy Cottier looks to have a nice chance with Delight Scoop in the 1600m BM58, while also saddling up maiden performer, Dollar Bucks.

Darren Kolpin will also have debutant, Red Paree, in the same race, the Ace Radio Maiden over 1100m.

Happy punting.
