THE Southern 500 Speedway will be returning to action tomorrow, with their headline races being the Anton Domburg Memorial Caravan Race and the Standard Saloon King of the Ring, in what is one of their most popular annual events.
The main races will be preceded by the Classic Hot Rods, with spectators welcome from 5pm onwards for a 6pm start time.
Club secretary Hannah Carter said there’s plenty of excitement to go around for the event, with the hope being that there will be plenty of spectators coming down to support the competition.
“It’s going to be a great event, we’re very keen to get underway for another great evening,” Carter said.
“With just the one support event it’s going to be an earlier finish to the night than usual, so it’s a great opportunity for families to get down and enjoy the racing.”
The Caravan Race is one of the most popular events of the speedway calendar, with the inevitable carnage on display a major drawcard for spectators.
“We’re hoping to see some tourists from out of town coming through the gates… the more people that come along the better,” Carter said.
Portland will have a number of competitors across the two main events, including nine in the Standard Saloons and three in the Caravan Race.
