PORTLAND’S Southern 500 Speedway was back in action on Saturday evening, as it played host to multiple series events in what was an entertaining night for all.
One of the key events of the night was the MJS Street Stocks, with the speedway hosting a leg of this series for the first time ever.
MJS representative Richard Parsons said the event was great success, with the local club doing a terrific job in making sure it went as well as possible.
“It was a fantastic event, the club here did a great job of making sure we got it done to a high standard,” Parsons said.
“We got a great crowd out, there were heaps of people out supporting the event which was really good to see.”
The racing went off without a hitch for most of the night, until a crash in one of the junior events forced a delay while repairs were carried out to the safety barriers.
Parsons said that despite this unavoidable mishap, all involved remained determined to try and get the show back on.
“The club moved heaven and earth to get the show back on the road… the club is to be commended for never giving up,” he said.
As for the racing itself, Steven Gartner came away on top in the MJS event’s A final, coming in with a time of 23:28.225.
Portland local Hanna Domburg performed well in this event, winning one of her heats by just over a second, before finishing 12th in the A final.
In the other events, Corey Jetson came out on top in the VMPA Modified Sedans series event, while local driver Steven Aldridge finished on top in the Production Sedans.
